Toronto Centre of Learning & Development Strong Communities Together

The Centre of Learning & Development (CL&D), formerly known as East End Literacy, was founded in 1979 as a community-based literacy organization serving downtown east Toronto. In 2006, the organization changed its name to reflect its growing initiatives and on-going commitment to community development and social inclusion. CL&D promotes the use of learning, digital storytelling, leadership develop

ment, and building healthy organizations, as vehicles for responding to community-based challenges, and promoting initiatives that lead to positive social change. Some of our programs include Academic Upgrading (AU), Immigrant Women Integration Program (IWIP), Food Processing Essential Skills Program (FPE), Clear Language & Design (CLAD) and a partnership with Elevate Talent.

What makes communities strong? 🌳

🐝Last week, we asked this question at Newcomer Day.

Together, we created a tree that inspires to show up more intentionally for our communities.

💚Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and connect with our organization.

We welcome newcomers to grow with us. 🌿

🌿Last week, our IWIP cohort spent a grounding morning at the Toronto Islands.

Together, we connected with the land, learned more about its history, and shared food and reflections in a circle, creating space for connection and belonging.

Thank you to Mahlikah and Elham for guiding us through this meaningful experience. 💚

Healing happens in community. 💙🩵

Join us for an evening of reflection, support, and conversation as we explore mental health, grief, caregiving, and emotional well-being in a safe space.

Together, we’ll build practical skills to navigate challenges, and remind one another that no one has to carry things alone. 🪴

🎨 Our IWIP participants spent an inspiring afternoon at the exploring works by BIPOC and women-identifying artists.

Through art and conversation, the group reflected on themes of identity, resilience, and self-expression. Thank you to Mahlikah for leading such a meaningful tour. 🦋
