The AI industry is built on the carefully maintained myth that its products are a kind of technological magic. But the reality is far more human and far less glamorous, participants heard at a recent WACC Europe discussion.

AI is neither artificial nor intelligent. It depends, at every stage of its production chain, on enormous quantities of human labour, based primarily in the Global South.
