Toronto Chicken Save

07/02/2026

In our last post we were hoping to secure a runaway hen and we had a safe home lined up for her. We were optimistic when she was spotted in a backyard and the person was willing to secure her and transport her. We connected that property owner to the person who was going to provide her sanctuary. While the logistics was being coordinated, we received an update that the hen’s “owner” had claimed her and that’s where she ended up going back to.

We don’t know if she was sent back to exploitation or maybe she had a safe home to start and she just wandered off. All we can do is try our best in these circumstances. Thanks to everyone who shared the post!

This chicken on the run was spotted yesterday and shared in a local community group on Facebook. We are asking for the help of community members for sightings or if anyone is able to secure her, we have a safe placement lined up for her.

Lakeshore and Royal York in Toronto ON.

Thanks for your help!

When the slaughterhouse was operating in Toronto this was the horror the chickens endured leading up to their violent death. Sadly, the food system that includes livestock is always going to be a violent and horrific industry for the animals no matter what they tell you.

Their entire short little lives are nothing more than a collection of suffering experiences. They suffer until the bitter end. Please consider their sentience. It’s never too late.

POV: you witness a truck filled with thousands of stressed and frightened ~40 day old chickens arriving for slaughter

Their final moments are filled with absolute horror and suffering. Chickens are sentient, as well as intelligent.
