⛳ Builders and business owners. One golf tournament. One big question: How do we make skilled trades careers in Quinte more accessible to youth?

As a sponsor of the Quinte Home Builders Association Builders’ Golf Classic, EmployNext is supporting the Children’s Safety Village in its capital campaign to relocate to a new space at Hillcrest Park, while also supporting the Quinte Careers in Construction Fund.

During the tournament, we connected with builders and business owners to better understand the skills they need and help create stronger pathways from local talent to local careers.

Real workforce results start with real collaboration. 🤝

Two weeks on from the 2026 WorkFirst Alberta Summit, we've had time to reflect on the conversations, insights, and connections that continue to shape how we approach workforce development across Alberta.

The Summit brought together workforce development professionals, employers, community organizations, and government partners to explore what's working, where challenges remain, and how we can collectively strengthen workforce participation.

From insightful discussions on employer engagement and inclusive hiring to meaningful connections at our EmployNext networking reception, one takeaway continues to stand out: stronger partnerships lead to better outcomes for Albertans.

As we carry these conversations forward, we're pleased to share some of the key learnings, takeaways, and workforce trends from the Summit.

🍁 100+ conversations. 42 service providers. 3 days. 1 stronger network. Bringing our whole network into one room was no small feat, and those conversations made every bit of it worthwhile.

The inaugural EmployNext Leadership Summit brought together all 42 service providers in our network, along with partners and our teams, to strengthen relationships, share ideas, and learn from one another.

Over three days in Thunder Bay, we explored workforce development trends, exchanged data and insights, highlighted promising practices, and discussed new ways to enhance employment service delivery in our communities. More importantly, we strengthened the connections that help our network deliver better outcomes for job seekers, employers and communities across Ontario.

As the first event of its kind for our network, the Leadership Summit demonstrated the power of collaboration, shared learning and community. From meaningful conversations to new partnerships, the experience reinforced what we can achieve when we come together around a common purpose.

Thank you to every employment service provider, partner, speaker and organizer who helped make this event possible. Together, we're building a stronger, more connected employment services network for Ontario.

🧡 Reconciliation starts with listening.

Orange Shirt Day comes from Phyllis Webstad's story. On her first day at residential school, her new orange shirt was taken from her. It now represents the children who were taken from their families and communities, and the Survivors who carry that history today.

This year, we reflect on a teaching shared by Elder Doug Gagnon of Aroland First Nation at our recent EmployNext Leadership Summit. He reminded us that in Anishinaabemowin there is no direct word for goodbye, only "see you again." That teaching speaks to connection, responsibility and the ongoing nature of relationships. It is also a reminder that reconciliation is not a destination, but a commitment to keep listening, learning and walking forward together. Today, and every day, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors, and the strength of Indigenous Peoples and communities across Canada.

🍁⛏️ 300+ exhibitors from mining, construction, industrial, and resource sectors filled the floor at CEN-CAN Expo 2026 in Thunder Bay last week, showing just how much hiring activity is driving Northwestern Ontario's workforce landscape.

Seven Generations Education Institute and Northwest Employment Works (NEW) ~ Thunder Bay, both service providers in the EmployNext network, exhibited alongside employers from these same sectors, putting them right in front of the industries actively hiring in the region. Their presence on the floor highlights the direct role service providers play in connecting job seekers to resource sector jobs driving the region's growth.
