Recently, EmployNext’s Community Outreach team in Alberta visited the Centre for Newcomers for a meaningful discussion on the power of collaboration in supporting newcomer success. The conversation focused on strengthening pathways to employment, connecting complementary programs and services, and ensuring individuals have access to the resources and support needed for long-term career growth and advancement in Canada.

Last week, EmployNext’s Community Outreach and Employer Engagement team in Alberta participated as an exhibitor at the Calgary Career Fair and Training Expo.

The event provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships with local employers, employment service providers, and community organizations that play an important role in supporting Albertans on their employment journey. By building these connections, we can better support individuals participating in the EmployNext program with access to opportunities, resources, and community-based services that help them achieve their career goals.

⛳ This week, we connected with employers and business leaders at the 40th Annual Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic. Crystal, Tim, Joanna, and Matt represented our team as an Interactive Tee Sponsor, spending the day talking with businesses across Northwestern Ontario about their hiring priorities and workforce needs.

The conversations highlighted consistent challenges across the region, with employers describing ongoing shortages in the trades and leadership roles, and a growing need to invest in developing their workforce through upskilling. Insights like these help us better align workforce development efforts with employer needs across Northwestern Ontario, including recent trades training cohorts delivered with NORCAT and LiUNA 183 Training Centre, to prepare job seekers for in-demand careers.

It was inspiring to be part of the Dual-Use Manufacturing Ecosystem Founding Assembly last week, presented by Avro Precision Laboratories Inc. in partnership with the Barrie Chamber of Commerce, D.G. Bevan Insurance Brokers Ltd, Georgian College, CIBC, Bmg. Glass & Aluminum, BDO Canada and Oro Station Motor Circuit.

Bringing together more than 100 leaders from 50+ companies, the event highlighted the potential that exists across Barrie and Simcoe County. We were especially energized by the number of people eager to ask questions, exchange ideas, and explore new partnerships that can strengthen the local manufacturing and defence ecosystem.

The conversations reinforced an important message which is that Barrie has the talent, capabilities, and business community needed to support growth. By continuing to build meaningful connections and workforce capacity, the region is well-positioned to unlock new opportunities.

We enjoyed sharing how Serco supports the defence sector and discussing how EmployNext can help employers attract, recruit, and retain the talent they need to grow.

Thank you for bringing together such an engaged and collaborative group. We're excited to be part of the conversation and look forward to supporting the partnerships that emerge from this initiative.

From career exploration to full-time employment. 🌟

When this job seeker first connected with Agilec Belleville, he was receiving ODSP benefits and looking for guidance to find a career path that matched his skills and goals. He was motivated to work, but wasn't yet sure which direction to take.

Working closely with Employment Consultant Kathryn Gregg, he explored his options and identified Security Guard Services as the right fit. He went on to complete the full Security Guard training program and pass his final exam, a milestone his family celebrated together

From there, Agilec Belleville provided individualized supports including resume development, interview preparation, and mock interviews to help him move forward with confidence. That preparation led to an interview and a job offer with Paladin Security. Within weeks, his professionalism and work ethic earned him a promotion to a full-time role covering the Kingston and Belleville regions!

📈 More Canadian employers are planning to hire in the second half of 2026, but many are still struggling to fill the roles they have open.

According to a new Express Employment Professionals-Harris Poll survey:

✅74% of Canadian hiring managers feel positive about their hiring outlook for the rest of 2026

🌱43% of companies plan to grow their headcount.

🔍32% of hiring managers say they currently have open positions they can't fill

⚠️86% expect to face hiring challenges through the rest of the year, most commonly finding qualified candidates.
