The Hammer Band empowers children's futures through the power of music education. 🎻 We strive inspire creativity, build confidence, and foster a love for learning. Introducing young people to violins and music develops listening skills and self-respect, pride in their accomplishments and sensitivity to others. Learning and playing the violin brings troubled young people into a positive group of yo

ungsters and teachers. Music education not only enhances a child's academic performance in math and science, it also engenders teamwork, communication and other social skills that are critical to success as an adult. Studying music as a youth pays off with improved self-discipline, lower high school drop out rates and higher scores on university admission tests. The impact of music goes far beyond the classroom. Since 2007, The Hammer Band has been creating opportunities for children in underserved communities through free violin education and social development programs.

Thanks to the continued support of our donors, educators, volunteers, and community partners, we’ve reached some incredible milestones:
🎻 10,000 students have participated in our program.
👧 700 children participate each school year.
🏫 30 schools partner with The Hammer Band across Ontario.
🎼 450 concerts have been performed.

These numbers represent much more than participation. They represent children building confidence, developing teamwork, strengthening resilience, and discovering the joy of making music together.

To everyone who has supported The Hammer Band over the past 19 years, thank you. Your generosity continues to create opportunities that can make a lasting difference in a child’s life.

We’re excited to announce that The Hammer Band has been awarded a $20,000 Community Board grant from the TELUS Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area Community Board, through the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation! This generous support will fund our 2026–2027 School Programs, giving students at multiple schools 30 weeks—an entire school year—of music instruction and instruments.

About The Hammer Band
Founded in 2007 by internationally renowned violinist Moshe Hammer, The Hammer Band’s From Violence to Violins program now serves approximately 1,000 children in 30 schools across the Greater Toronto Area, offering free ensemble violin lessons and loaner instruments to students in priority neighbourhoods. Through music, the charity helps children “change their tune,” fostering self-esteem, resilience, and healthier communities.
