Cape Breton Search & Rescue Cape Breton Search & Rescue (CBSAR) is an emergency service provider dedicated to locating and rescuing lost persons in the Cape Breton area (and beyond).

Established in November 1969, CBSAR work closely with the Emergency Management Office (Nova Scotia), RCMP, Cape Breton Regional Police and local agencies to provide a number of services to our communities. These services include: lost person searches, evidence searches, Project Lifesaver, public education and disaster services. A registered charitable organization and member of the Nova Scotia Ground Search & Rescue Association, CBSAR is one of four teams that serve the Cape Breton area (Eastern Zone) alongside Cheticamp, Inverness and Straight Area GSAR.

Last Thursday evening, our team was at the Marion Bridge boat launch for a great night of hands-on training!

The crew worked on throw bag techniques and Mule extraction, building skills that are important when responding to challenging situations in the field.

A big thank you to the Marion Bridge Fire Department for joining us! Itโ€™s always great to train alongside other local emergency responders and learn from one another. ๐Ÿ‘

Here are a few photos from the evening! ๐Ÿ“ธ

โ˜€๏ธ Sunday was a pretty great day to be outside doing what we love!

Some of our CBSAR members spent the day at the back of Mayflower Mall for a mock search exercise. We had a little bit of everything going on, including the drone in the air, the Argo making its way through the terrain, and Eastlink out capturing some of the training.

Mock searches give our members a chance to put skills into practice, work together, and get comfortable using the equipment and terrain they may encounter when weโ€™re called out.

And honestlyโ€ฆ with a beautiful day, sunshine and plenty of room to get the Argo dirty, we really canโ€™t complain. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today, we pause to remember the thousands of lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the families, friends, and communities forever changed by that day.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, emergency personnel, and civilians who faced unimaginable circumstances and made the ultimate sacrifice while helping others.

In the midst of tragedy, countless acts of courage, compassion, and selflessness were witnessed. First responders ran toward danger, not knowing what awaited them, driven by a commitment to protect and help others.

Twenty-five years later, the impact of that day remains deeply felt.

We hold in our thoughts all those who lost their lives, those who responded, and everyone who continues to carry the lasting effects of September 11.

Heading out for an adventure this long weekend? ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฅพ

A quick reminder: check the weather, know your route, pack for the conditions, and make sure someone knows where youโ€™re going.

And if Mother Nature has other plans, itโ€™s okay to postpone the adventure. The trails arenโ€™t going anywhere! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Plan ahead, stay safe, and have fun out there! ๐Ÿงก

๐ŸŒง๏ธ Long weekends are made for adventures.

Maybe you were planning to take in the views at , explore the The Bluff Wilderness Hiking Trail, or climb Mountain for the incredible views in .

But sometimes, the weather gets a vote.

It can be disappointing to put an adventure on hold, but heavy rain can turn a familiar trail into a very different experience. Wet conditions can make rocks and roots slippery, reduce visibility, obscure trail markers, and make it easier to become lost or injured.

If conditions aren't looking great where you're headed, changing the plan doesn't mean giving up on the adventure. It means saving it for a better day.

Use the extra time to get ready for the next one:

โœ… Check your gear and replace anything worn
โœ… Charge your phone and backup power bank
โœ… Download offline maps
โœ… Review your route and prepare a trip plan to leave with a trusted friend or family member
โœ… Pack the essentials for the conditions you may encounter

AdventureSmart reminds us that a safe adventure starts before we reach the trailhead.

๐Ÿฅพ Trip planning
๐Ÿฅพ Training
๐Ÿฅพ Taking the essentials

Sometimes the best outdoor decision is staying home and preparing for the next adventure.

Blomidon, Bluff and Broad Cove will still be there when the weather improves. ๐Ÿฅพ๐ŸŒฒ

๐Ÿ˜ We are so incredibly fortunate to belong to a community that supports us in every way and in all that we do.

๐ŸŒŸ While we do have regular annual fixed fundraising events, we also rely heavily on community support in other ways.

โญ There are a variety of options should you choose to support us at Cape Breton Search and Rescue:

๐Ÿ˜Ž CBSAR is involved in a monthly Rafflebox draw which supports all search and rescue teams in Nova Scotia. We receive a portion of this draw and it helps to support our operations year-round.

๐Ÿ“ We also have a live Canada Helps link where you can donate to us.

๐ŸŒณ At CBSAR, we feel tremendously privileged to serve our communities. Every donation directly strengthens our ability to respond to a lost person emergency in Cape Breton and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support!
Your CBSAR friends ๐Ÿงก
