Arusha Climate supports Calgary grassroots community climate action through capacity building programs, network development, funding and entertainment. Originally called Open Streets Events, we derived our name from the dozens of other Open Streets initiatives popping up across North America, which worked to reclaim and reimagine public space. We rebranded in 2023 as Arusha Climate, to better reflect the evolution of our organization. Our work now focuses on supporting Calgarians to build a network and take collective action on:
- Food Security
- Energy Sustainability
- Waste Stream Management
- Active Transportation
- Community and Land Engagements
- Indigenous Reconciliation
We achieve this through our Climate Partners Program - a Calgary network of residents and organizations who develop, support, and launch projects geared towards addressing the impacts of climate change. Funding is available for these local climate projects through our Climate Action Grant program. Arusha Climate also animates a variety of City events and public festivals, to promote climate action. Such events include Calgary Unplugged (our Earth Hour event), The Mayor's Environment Expo, Energy Efficiency Day and more! Lastly, Arusha Climate offers fun, inclusive renewable energy programming and event rentals such as fender generators, speaker systems, tents, button makers and more - a great learning opportunity while improving personal fitness. www.arusha.org/climate
