Tanner Steffler Foundation

Tanner Steffler Foundation Mission:

We will educate parents, caregivers, community members and politicians through advocacy and presentations within the municipalities of Huron County.

TSF aims to enhance and improve mental health and addiction resources and support networks for youth between the ages of 12-29 within Huron & Perth Counties through support, advocacy, education and more. We will work with the separate and public Board of Education so that appropriate mental health and addiction specialists are able to work within each school on a full-time basis to support student

needs. We will have a Youth Council that will provide us with voice and direction to best support their needs. Youth will be active participants in the growth and setting the direction of the Tanner Steffler Foundation. We will create a website and mobile application specific to our youth that will provide local resources, media releases, education by way of videos, podcasts, blogs and online chats with trained mental health specialists 24 hours a day. We will build and sustain an evidence based Youth Addiction Treatment & Mental Health Resource and Wellness Facility in Huron County for our youth and their families.

August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day, the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died from overdose, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.

Did you know? In 2025, there were...
• An average of 15 deaths per day from opioid overdose in Canada, totalling over 5,500.
• An average of 64 emergency room visits per day for opioid-related poisonings in Canada, totalling over 23,000.

Days like these are so incredibly important in helping spread the message about the tragedy of drug overdose death and that drug overdose is preventable. This upcoming Overdose Awareness Day, if you can, get involved and be a part of the movement to spread awareness and knowledge around overdose, which is one of the world’s worst public health crises.

You can get involved and show support by:
- spreading this message on your social media.
- Donating to local organizations who work to prevent overdoses from happening.
- Learning the facts that surround overdose, the signs of overdose and how to access, receive and use naloxone.

And for more information, we encourage all to visit Overdoseday.com

Last Monday, TSF had the pleasure of spending the day at Kadylack Sunflower Farm connecting with visitors, sharing harm reduction information and resources, and enjoying a beautiful afternoon among the flowers.

Throughout the sunflower walk, we loved coming across these little reminders of hope, kindness, and taking care of your mental health. 💛 A huge thank you to the team at Kadylack Sunflower Farm for inviting us, welcoming us and helping create a place where positive messages about mental health can bloom right alongside the sunflowers. 🌻

If you wore a seatbelt today, you practiced harm reduction.

Harm reduction isn’t a radical new idea. It simply means acknowledging that risks exist and taking practical steps to minimize danger without demanding total abstinence from life.

Applying this exact same logic to substance use saves lives, reduces stigma, and builds healthier communities!

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Thank you so much to our amazing community who helped us raise over $35,000 through our annual Driving the Stigma Out golf tournament and silent auction.

This money will go directly towards mental health and substance use initiatives accross Huron & Perth Counties to improve the lives of youth and their families.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, golfers, bidders, and volunteers who helped make this possible. It truly does not go unnoticed!

We look forward to seeing you all next year!

There are two awards currently looking for nominations in our community, and we encourage you to spread the word!

One of the most important parts of our work is encouraging youth voice, celebrating youth leadership, and creating opportunities for young people to be recognized for the difference they're making in our communities. If you know a young person who volunteers, leads by example, supports others, or is making Huron or Perth Counties a better place, we encourage you to take a few minutes to nominate them.
