It was a pleasure to meet Baraka and Lightness from Tanzania this week. Thank you to our mutual friend Karen for making the introduction.
Karen felt that the mission of Zonta aligned closely with the work of Marafiki Tanzania, and she was absolutely right.
Marafiki Tanzania's mission is "to empower communities to achieve gender equality, access quality education and health services, enjoy a clean and safe environment, attain economic empowerment, and promote human rights and policy advocacy."
As we shared stories and experiences, it became clear that although we live in different parts of the world, we are united by a common goal: creating opportunities for women and girls to thrive and building stronger, more equitable communities.
Conversations like these remind us that meaningful change happens when people come together, share ideas, and support one another across borders.
Thank you, Baraka and Lightness, for taking the time to meet with us. We look forward to following the important work of Marafiki Tanzania and exploring opportunities to learn from one another.

One of our annual summer projects is to maintain the gardens at the Women In Crisis - Algoma Inc. shelter and today was our first day, weeding, pruning and cleaning up the beds. A fun project for the gardeners in our club.

🎓 Investing in the Future of Young Women 🎓

Each year, the Zonta Sault Ste. Marie Area Foundation is proud to recognize outstanding young women in our community by providing a $300 award to a female graduate at each local secondary school.

These awards celebrate a commitment to making a difference in the lives of women and girls through service and advocacy, as exemplified in their involvement in school and club activities. By supporting young women as they pursue their educational and career goals, we are helping to build a brighter future for our community.

We know that the selection committees at each of our local secondary schools have a challenging task ahead as there are so many worthy candidates! We are always inspired by the recipient’s accomplishments and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in the years ahead.

The Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area remains committed to empowering women and girls through education, advocacy, and service.
