Meet the researchers who will be sharing their work at the Child & Youth Health Research Expo on October 20th.

Hosted by SHRF and Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation, the Expo will bring together researchers and teams working across different areas of child and youth health:

• Brandy Winquist, Department of Community Health and Epidemiology, University of Saskatchewan
• Daniel Adeyinka, Saskatchewan Health Authority
• Heather Szabo-Rogers, College of Medicine - University of Saskatchewan
• Lisa Plank, Saskatchewan Health Authority
• Stacey Lovo, University of Saskatchewan School of Rehabilitation Science

Their presentations will share research focused on supporting children and families, improving care during pregnancy, better understanding childhood health conditions, expanding access to pediatric care, and bringing rehabilitation services closer to communities.

Following the presentations, attendees will have time to connect with research teams and organizations, including those at trade show booths, from across Saskatchewan during the Research Expo.

Provincial research funders have an important role in shaping Canada’s health research ecosystem, bringing regional priorities and perspectives into the national conversation.

At SHRF, we look at Saskatchewan's health research ecosystem as a whole. Where can investment build research capacity? Where can we create connections - between researchers, communities, health system partners, or other funders? How can we help research move into use and demonstrate the value those investments create for Saskatchewan?

These are questions being considered across Canada.

As a member of the National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations (NAPHRO), SHRF collaborates with provincial research funding organizations across Canada to share knowledge, contribute Saskatchewan's perspective, learn from one another, and identify opportunities for collective action.

NAPHRO’s latest thought leadership piece examines the unique position provincial research funders hold in Canada’s evolving research environment and the leadership they can provide locally, provincially and nationally.

In September 2025, the National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations (NAPHRO) released a thought leadership piece focused on the critical role that provincial research funders (PRFs) play in understanding, communicating and catalyzing the value of research.

📢 Exciting news! The CIHR Nursing in Indigenous Research in Action (NIRA) Chairs Program is now open.

Led by the CIHR Institute of Indigenous Peoples' Health (IIPH) and supported by partners across Canada, this program will invest in Indigenous-led, community-driven nursing research that helps improve health and well-being for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

At its heart, the NIRA Chairs Program is about supporting Indigenous leadership, strengthening health research capacity, mentoring future leaders, and creating positive change in communities. Through this work, the program will help advance culturally safe, anti-racist, and gender-responsive health systems that better serve Indigenous Peoples.

🤝 We are grateful to collaborate with our partners at the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH), the CIHR Institute of Gender and Health (IGH), the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH), the CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA), the CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH), and the CIHR Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on how we can contribute to reconciliation through action.

The SHRF Mobilize: Truth & Action Grant specifically responds to the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Funding supports projects that share knowledge and stories, highlight Indigenous ways of knowing, create cross-cultural and generational exchanges, and guide culturally responsive health care.

Today, we are sharing the 2026-27 projects receiving support through this grant and the work they are leading in communities.
