Jacob, and hundreds of other kids who have lost their life doing something that they or someone else found on the internet, will have their picture posted on the lawn at Capitol Hill in the U.S. I thought long and hard about letting the group of parents that is trying to get legislation in the U.S. use Jacob's picture. But sometimes getting legislation like this passed in the U.S. helps change laws on this side of the border, and vise versa. Though Jacob himself will never make it to D.C, people there will see his face. Who knows, maybe it will help save a life.
It's summer now and your kids, or kids you love, will be meeting new people learning new things. Make sure they know that internet challenges, and actions that they wouldn't talk with you about, are most likely very dangerous. The biggest thing is to keep the lines of communication open, so they feel free to talk with you about anything. That you are a safe person to talk to without getting yelled at or being judged. Be happy that they can tell you they screwed up, or learned something new. So much better than never hearing their voice again.
