This summer, members of the Raffi Foundation team, as well as Raffi himself! were able to participate in The ReVILLAGEing Family Camp.

This week-long, intergenerational, living-learning journey is rooted in the principles of Child Honouring, Ancestral stewardship, and regenerative design.

As part of OUR Ecovillage course, we led a hands-on workshop exploring the Child Honouring principle of Respectful Love through Earth Art. Working in groups, participants created earth sculptures together, sparking creativity, connection, and meaningful conversations about how these principles can come to life.

Today is Child Honouring Day! The movement, founded by Raffi, calls on communities to place children's needs at the center of decision-making. Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria have each proclaimed July 8 as . Today is also Raffi's birthday!

"Child Honouring asks all of us to prioritize the needs of our youngest citizens," said Raffi. "Cities saying yes to that is exactly the kind of public commitment children deserve. It's the best birthday present ever."

Child Honouring is a child-first framework that calls on individuals, institutions, and governments to organize society around the priority needs of the very young.

Big news that I'm so happy to share! Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria have each proclaimed July 8 as Child Honouring Day!

It's the first time Child Honouring has been recognized this way, and it's a powerful message that children's wellbeing belongs at the centre of decision-making.

July 8 is also Raffi's birthday, and this year is 50 years since his first album Singable Songs for the Very Young. Happy Birthday Raffi!

Ada Mawson says, "It's about respecting the land that we're on. It's teaching our kids about reciprocity. Taking only what we need. It's about giving back to the land and respecting it."

Our Executive Director, Laurel Collins, spoke on the panel of the Early Childhood Educators of BC Annual Conference about how the principles of Child Honouring can inform policies that center children's wellbeing.

The multi-day event brought together childhood professionals to inspire, uplift, and celebrate one another.
