Literacy PG is again proud to organize The 2026 Raise A Reader Fundraising Campaign!! SEPTEMBER 24Th 7-9

Please join us in supporting community driven projects and programs that support literacy growth locally. All funds raised stay in the community and are donated throughout the city to your very own schools, public libraries, indigenous organizations and charitable foundations. Together we can continue to build a strong foundation of learning for all.

I know it’s hard to hear but these relaxed summer days are about to give way to crisp fall mornings, early wake-ups, and packing lunchboxes. For a smooth transition, now’s the time to lay out your plans to move from the lazy days of summer to the fun-filled school days.

Here are a few tips to get you started!

In the week leading up to school start to reestablish your routines by gently introducing the idea of early rising, practicing leaving the house at the same time by going for a morning walk right after breakfast and setting dinner time for the same time every day. You can also have a chat about the upcoming schedule change to help your child with the transition.

On the night before school you can lay out tomorrow’s clothes and pack their backpack with them. Ask what they want in their lunch box so they don’t have to decide on the way out the door.

Finally, in the morning before they start school, set a visual timer to help make the abstract concept of “time” more concrete. Most importantly, stay positive and send them off with a smile!

Dolly Parton leaves music, memory and more than 300 million books bearing children’s own names.

She knew the ache of watching her father live in a world whose words were closed to him, so she transformed his lack-of into imagine the possibilities…and thus the Imagination Library was born, sending free books each month to children from birth to age five.

More than five million of those books have reached children across Canada.

Today, Decoda joins readers around the world in mourning a beloved artist and honouring an extraordinary literacy champion.

Forevermore, children will read books with their names on it, and we will all listen to songs full of her stories. There are few legacies more beautiful than that.
