If and when young people are ready to connect, we’re here to support regardless of what that looks like for them!

Join us at the Cobourg Community Centre on Friday May 8 for COME TOGETHER NORTHUMBERLAND, a community open house that aims to build awareness of local programs, services and referral pathways related to:

- mental health and addictions
- homelessness
- human and social services
- the justice sector

Featuring:
- panel discussion 11:00-noon with our own Paul Paget, YWHO Interim Manager
- presentation noon-1:00 by Chad Valyear, YWHO Peer Support Specialist

Heads up that the Hub will be closed today (Monday April 20) and tomorrow (Tuesday April 21) as staff are attending the conference, Canada’s largest annual gathering focused on child and youth mental health.

Today is Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying initiative that encourages small acts of kindness towards ourselves and each other.

Now a movement celebrated across the globe, Pink Shirt Day has humble beginnings in small-town Canada. Here is a snippet of an article detailing the original incident:

“A group of teenage friends organized a high-school protest to wear pink in sympathy with a Grade 9 boy who was being bullied [for wearing a pink shirt]…[They] took a stand against bullying when they protested against the harassment of a new Grade 9 student by distributing pink T-shirts to all the boys in their school. It all began when a group of teens went to a discount store and bought 50 pink tank tops. They sent out message to schoolmates that night, and the next morning they hauled the shirts to school in a plastic bag. As they stood in the foyer handing out the shirts, the bullied boy walked in. His face spoke volumes. The bullies were never heard from again.” — Globe & Mail
