Ganaraska Woods Retreat Centre, (GWRC) located near Port Hope, Ontario, and is an outreach ministry of Calvary Baptist Church Toronto on Main Street
1973 or 74: Picture 1 - The main lodge under construction. Much of the construction was led by Garney Stewart, including carpentry, masonry, and roofing. Picture 2 - Ora & Reverend Robert F Sneyd established the ministry and hosted events at Ganaraska Woods, seen here eating farm fresh fall apples.
The first groups attended in March 1975. Calvary Baptist Church held its first New Years Watchnight Service December 31, 1975. 12 adults & 11 children were present. The January 1st day was lovely, sunny and fairly mild, according to notes kept by Ora.
The ministry is now in its 51st year, praise be to God for all the years.
It's available to all to rent for all kinds of events and groups… church youth groups, Guides & Scouts, camping onsite is available, hosting seminars, workshops, inter-denominational groups, art shows and even family events are possible.
Since COVID-19 we have been operating using a self-serve weekend model to help keep the fees as low as possible.
We available year round and are taking bookings for Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 at this time.

The strawberry plants are loving the sunshine! Each one of these pretty white flowers are on their way to becoming the first sweet summer berries.
It is still a few weeks out before they will be ready to pick - keep a peak on our socials for updates.
