Travel and Lab Exchange awards support trainees and lab professionals with travel and accommodation funding to attend research exchanges, conferences, and workshops that build technical skills and advance professional growth.

Inspired by our patient and caregiver community who continue to ask “what if there is another way?”, the Imagine Lecture celebrates trainee-led research that puts patients at the centre—ultimately striving to improve quality of life for people living with cancer.

The 2026 Imagine Lecture was delivered by Paul Jerard Layug, PhD student in the lab of Dr. Yale Michaels at the University of Manitoba and the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute, CancerCare Manitoba.

In his talk, “Navigating Cancer: Why Cancer Research Needs Co‑PILOTS,” Paul shares his journey establishing the Co‑mentorship of Patients, Investigators and Learners in Oncology Training (Co‑PILOT) Program—an initiative that embeds lived cancer experience at the core of training the next generation of cancer researchers in Manitoba.

In advance of BioCanRx’s upcoming funding competition (pre-launch in May), BioCanRx is pleased to support the Cancer Research Society (CRS) in launching its first national investigator-initiated clinical trials program in oncology. This new competition will be co-led by the Canadian Cancer Society and the Terry Fox Research Institute, supported by a historic $25 million investment.

Over the past decade, BioCanRx has funded 16 Canadian investigator-initiated clinical trials in cancer immunotherapy. In collaboration with CRS and its partners, BioCanRx looks forward to supporting additional trials across Canada. Applicants whose work aligns with the BioCanRx mandate are encouraged to include in-kind or cash contributions from eligible partners (excluding CRS and listed partners).
BioCanRx thanks the partners supporting this initiative: Génome Québec, SickKids Garron Family Cancer Centre, Kindred Foundation, Childhood Cancer Canada, and the Institut du cancer de Montréal.

En prévision du prochain concours de financement de BioCanRx (pré-lancement en mai), BioCanRx est fière de soutenir la Société de recherche sur le cancer (SRC) dans le lancement de son premier programme national d’essais cliniques initiés par des chercheurs en oncologie. Ce concours sera codirigé par la Société canadienne du cancer et l’Institut de recherche Terry Fox, grâce à un investissement historique de 25 millions de dollars.

Au cours de la dernière décennie, BioCanRx a financé 16 essais cliniques canadiens en immunothérapie contre le cancer.
