A message from JP Hornick and Laurie Brown (formerly Nancekivell):

As we approach this year's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30), OPSEU/SEFPO is calling out the Carney and Ford governments for rolling back their commitments to genuine reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

With direction from the OPSEU/SEFPO Indigenous Circle, our union will continue to demonstrate our commitment to reconciliation by pushing for full implementation of the 94 calls to action that emerged from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

In tandem, OPSEU/SEFPO will continue to observe Orange Shirt Day and the importance of honouring survivors and victims of the devastating, multi-generational trauma caused by colonialism and the Canadian residential school system.

Have you signed up for your OPSEU Membership Card yet? Membership Cards play a foundational role in a fighting union; they give members the chance to let their voices be heard in the democratic process, unlock valuable benefits (such as Via Rail and phone plan discounts) and provide a first step to pursuing leadership and education opportunities within the union.

It is important that as many of our members as possible are signed up for their cards. To get yours, visit this link: https://hub03.opseu.org/Forms/emaweb

At 4 p.m. today, various locals from OPSEU, CUPE, PSAC and SEIU will be coming out to show solidarity for Ottawa's striking workers! If you are able, please attend to show some 416 support for our fellow workers!

Yesterday, the first-ever College Faculty Part-Time and Sessional Bargaining Team met with the employer to begin negotiations.

And the first time in OPSEU/SEFPO’s history, they were joined today at the table by solidarity guests from all four college divisions: part-time/sessional college faculty, part-time college support, full-time college support, and full-time/partial-load college faculty.

Representatives from EVERY division faced the employer together, speaking directly to the devastating impacts of lack of transparency on college workers across Ontario. The union also delivered an Unfair Labour Practice (ULP) filed around the employer’s failure to disclose the merger between Fleming College and St. Lawrence College.

When you come for one of us, you come for all of us. We are one big union and unity at the table is how we win 💪
