💙 For more than 17 years, Michelle Finigan of Sydney River, Nova Scotia, has been dedicated to helping neighbours in need through the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, particularly by providing food assistance, support and and family outreach.

For Michelle, the human connections she builds with those she serves are at the heart of her Vincentian journey. Her message is simple: “Don’t hesitate. Lend a hand, get involved… it will have a great impact on your life and change it for the better.”

“Chris” has recently moved into a place of his own. As of August 1, he is happily settled into his new apartment. Thanks to the generosity of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Street Outreach team in Windsor, he is overjoyed to have a safe place to call home—and a bed of his own. 🏠💙

In addition, the SSVP has provided him with vouchers for clothing and household essentials, and he will receive a monthly food hamper while working with his social worker to strengthen his cooking skills and build confidence in the kitchen. The SSVP members in Windsor are thrilled to see him enjoying the comfort, dignity, and security of his own personal space.

« Chris » a récemment emménagé dans son propre logement. Depuis le 1er août, il est installé dans son nouvel appartement. Grâce à la générosité de l’équipe de soutien de rue de la Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul de Windsor, il est comblé, heureux d’avoir enfin un chez-soi sécuritaire et un lit bien à lui. 🏠💙

En plus de ce soutien, la SSVP lui a remis des bons d’achat pour des vêtements et des articles ménagers essentiels. Il recevra également un panier alimentaire chaque mois pendant qu’il travaille avec son intervenant social à développer ses compétences culinaires et à gagner en confiance dans la preparation de ses repas. Les members de la SSVP de Windsor se réjouissent de le voir retrouver le confort, la dignité et la sécurité que procure un espace personnel.

💙 At the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, we are privileged to see young people making a difference in their communities every day through volunteering, acts of kindness, and participation in our activities. On this International Youth Day, we recognize their potential, their aspirations, and the many opportunities that lie ahead. ✨

The SSVP supports young people and their families through food assistance, school supplies through the Bonne Mine program, and financial support through the Emmanuel Bailly scholarship and the Seeds of Hope programs.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who supports young people and helps them grow, learn, and thrive.

💙 À la Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul, nous avons le privilège de voir chaque jour des jeunes s'impliquer dans leur communauté, que ce soit par le bénévolat, l'entraide ou leur participation à nos activités. En cette Journée internationale de la jeunesse, nous célébrons leur potentiel, leurs aspirations et toutes les possibilités qui s'offrent à eux. ✨

La SSVP soutient les jeunes et leurs familles grâce à l'aide alimentaire, à la fourniture de matériel scolaire via le programme « Bonne Mine », ainsi qu’à un soutien financier par le biais de la bourse Emmanuel Bailly et du programme « Semences d'espoir ».

Too many Canadians can’t afford even the least expensive units in their own community anymore, and that gap is only getting wider, pushing more people into homelessness.

The good news is we know what needs to change. The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness has put together five recommendations for the federal government as they craft the next national housing strategy, including two directly connected to this research:

1. Transforming the Canada Housing Benefit to support hundreds of thousands of Canadians at imminent risk of homelessness to afford current rental costs; and
2. doubling the supply of social and deeply affordable housing to reduce costs at the low-end of the market longer-term.

Canadians are counting on this renewal to get it right. Let's raise awareness that homelessness is a housing problem to make sure the policymakers in Ottawa act on it.

Trop de Canadiens n’ont plus les moyens de se loger, même dans les logements les moins chers de leur propre localité ; cet écart ne cesse de se creuser, précipitant davantage de personnes dans l’itinérance.

La bonne nouvelle, c’est que nous savons ce qui doit changer. La CAEH a formulé cinq recommandations à l’intention du gouvernement fédéral dans le cadre de l’élaboration de la prochaine stratégie nationale sur le logement, dont deux sont directement liées à cette étude :

1. transformer l’Allocation canadienne pour le logement afin d’aider des centaines de milliers de Canadiens risquant de se retrouver sans abri à payer leur loyer actuel ; et
2. doubler l’offre de logements sociaux et de logements à très faible coût pour réduire les prix dans le bas du marché à long terme.

Les Canadiens comptent sur ce renouvellement pour que les choses soient faites correctement. Faisons savoir que l’itinérance est avant tout un problème de logement, afin de garantir que les décideurs à Ottawa agissent en conséquence.

💙 Thanks to the support of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, families returning to Fort Simpson after wildfire evacuations received much-needed food and essential supplies.

Made possible through the collaboration of the Yellowknife, Calgary and National Council of Canada teams, this initiative is a powerful reminder that, together, we can bring hope and practical support to communities facing difficult times.

Outside help 'gives us a really good energy,' chief says

💙 Each year, with the support of Moisson Rive-Sud and in partnership with the City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Saint-Jean provides nutritious snacks to children in need attending local summer day camps. 🍅

Throughout June and July, twice a week, the day camp coordinator picks up the snacks for distribution to the children.

This initiative helps ensure that every child can play, learn, and enjoy their summer without having to worry about going hungry.

Chaque année, avec l'aide de Moisson Rive-Sud et en collaboration avec la Ville de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, nous fournissons des collations pour les enfants dans le besoin qui fréquentent les camps de jour de notre secteur.

Pour juin et juillet, deux fois par semaine, le coordonnateur des camps de jour passe chercher les collations pour les redistribuer aux enfants.

De cette façon, chaque enfant peut jouer et s'amuser sans devoir penser à sa faim!
