Big win for ACORN members at City Hall Today! 7 ACORN Members attended the City Housing and Planning Committee meeting to save Ottawa’s anti-renoviction bylaw. ACORN told city hall: WE NEED A STRONG RENOVICTION BYLAW!

ACORN Members Sharon Katz, Eddy Roue, Sara Laviolette, Rosalinde Klempen and Roxane Donovan shared their experiences receiving bad-faith N13s from lying landlords. These landlords have taken advantage of loopholes in the Provincial Landlord Tenant Act to jack up rents and eliminate affordable housing. After hearing our members speak, city council members voted 9 - 3 in favour of bringing the anti-renoviction bylaw back to council.

The fight is not over! We need your support at city hall in your ACORN red to fill the room on Wednesday June 10th at 10am. City Councillors will debate the renovation bylaw. Let’s keep telling Ottawa’s City Council that we demand action to protect tenants!

The power of tenants and getting organized was on display in Accora Village today.

Their landlord Ferguslea Properties Limited is planning a major redevelopment and mass displacement of their current tenants; the current community. Without informing tenants they hosted a Public Open House meeting back in February. Well surprise, surprise tenants that were not told didn't show up.

Well that wasn't right so, members from Accora planned and hosted our own and over 100 tenants showed up to the meeting to discuss how we can organize with an ACORN tenant union.

This is only the beginning of the fight for Accora Village with ACORN.

📢 HUGE NEWS: ACORN just launched the "Hidden Renovictions" report! 🏘️

Our data proves Ottawa’s crisis is 20x worse than official numbers show. Only 4.7% of renovictions hit the LTB—the rest are hidden by harassment and "cash for keys." Our most vulnerable neighbours are being targeted, and fewer than 5% ever return home.

We need a Renovictions bylaw with TEETH: licenses, moving costs, and guaranteed return rights! Hamilton’s model cut renovictions by 80%—Ottawa must follow.

The South Chapter got back into their regular monthly meetings after2 months or organizing committee meetings to launching the Safe Apartments Bylaw Campaign!

Members got back to doing what we do best, identify community issues and plan actions. The talk of the night was about AGIs and eviction of an OCH tenant.

We planned an outreach for the AGI's and have plans to help the other member fight their eviction.
