Ottawa Valley Weavers' and Spinners' Guild

Ottawa Valley Weavers' and Spinners' Guild We love all things fibre! The Ottawa Valley Weavers’ and Spinners’ Guild was created in 1949 by a handful of Ottawa area weavers.

Originally called the Ottawa Valley Weaver’s Guild, the group eventually expanded to include spinners and today has over 200 members. The objectives of the Guild are to promote interest and education in weaving, spinning and related fibre arts and to encourage a high standard of craftsmanship and design.Since 1980, we have had an annual Exhibition and Sale at the Glebe Community Centre in Ottawa.

In early November, the Centre is transformed into a textile gallery and boutique where we sell wearable woven, knitted and felted pieces, household goods, hand spun yarns, supplies for spinners and weavers, and textile art. The Exhibition and Sale helps to promote and showcase the work of the guild’s many talented members.

Destash Sale: 14 tables open to the public. August 3, 2-6pm. 404 McArthur Ave.

Bring your friends. They do not have to be a guild member to join in this event. Share this information freely with other fibre lovers. It’s a great opportunity to introduce them to this amazing art.

The Ottawa Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild is sponsoring and hosting this event and is very pleased to be offering looms, floor loom accessories, spinning and weaving accessories, a spinning wheel, a drum carder, a free-standing warping mill and lots of books.

Other participating vendors will be bringing a glorious selection of fibre, tools, exotic fabrics from their world travels, books, fleeces, possibly spinning wheels and other goodies.

Looking forward to seeing all of you.

Description:
Nålbinding is a medieval technique for crating a dense, warm fabric often used for hats, mittens, and socks. This Scandinavian version uses a single needle to loop yarn into itself. Nålbinding today has discovered a resurgence.

During the workshop, sudents will learn this ancient technique as well as discuss its history, review other stitches and splicing techniques, and explore individual student interests such as how to make stripes etc.

Feel the joy of crafting with fiber and join us to discover Nålbinding. Grab your spot now at: https://www.ovwsg.com/events/event/introduction-to-nalbinding-s26-fibr1200/ and come play with fiber!
