🎉 WATSON’S MILL, MANOTICK — A WIN FOR LOCAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE! 🎉

Wonderful news this week! Watson’s Mill has taken ownership of the historic Dickinson House and Carriage Shed, home to the Used Book Store, along with a grant to help fund the much-needed restoration of Dickinson House. This is fantastic news for Manotick and everyone who cares about preserving our local history!

There was a time when these historic properties faced the possibility of being sold on the open market. Thankfully, through the tremendous efforts of the City of Ottawa, Watson’s Mill and the local city councillor, these irreplaceable pieces of Manotick’s heritage have a brighter future. What a tremendous outcome!

🏛️ Three historic buildings. One incredible legacy.

Built in 1860, Watson’s Mill remains a working flour mill today. Dickinson House, built in 1867, was once home to the mill’s owners and now serves as a heritage museum. Along with the Carriage Shed, these three historic buildings form the heart of Manotick’s historic square.

Preserving these buildings is about so much more than bricks and mortar. It’s about protecting the stories, character and heritage that make our communities special — and ensuring future generations can experience them for themselves.

👻 A special connection with Bytown Paranormal

Bytown Paranormal has a special history with Watson’s Mill dating back to 2008, when we hosted a successful Halloween ghost hunt fundraiser, donating all proceeds to the Mill.

Since 2009, we’ve returned on several occasions to investigate and spend time within its fascinating historic walls. Every visit has been a pleasure, and the welcoming staff have always made us feel at home.

Bytown Paranormal is always ready to help our community! We provide a free community service and are proud to support the preservation and appreciation of the history that surrounds us.

We’re also proud to now be part of CHAPS, an authorized representation of the TAPS family — familiar to many of you from the long-running television series Ghost Hunters.

From uncovering the mysteries of the past to helping keep local history alive, our connection to places like Watson’s Mill is something we truly value.
