📚Indigenous Student Centres at universities and colleges provide meaningful support and resources to Indigenous students on their campuses. Some provide cultural resources, Elders in residence, food events, and student discussion and mentor groups. We want to highlight a few schools from across the country that have Indigenous Student Centres available to its students.

👉Today, we're highlighting two schools from Alberta, Bow Valley College in Calgary and NorQuest College in Edmonton.

🪶Bow Valley College
- Iniikokaan Centre (Buffalo Lodge) is a cultural space that is welcome to all Nations. Ceremony, teachings, and gatherings take place here with Elders and Knowledge Keepers. The space is also available as a place to study and to get information on Indigenous funding and referrals to Student Services.
- Indigenous Recruitment Specialist available to assist students applying to Bow Valley

🪶NorQuest College
- miyo-pimâtisiwin Centre is a cultural space for students, teachers, and partners to gather. Other activities and services at the centre include, free weekly meals, ceremonies, free tutoring and printing services, access to Indigenous Student Advisors and Cultural Support Services.

All it takes is making that first connection in a culturally safe and supportive environment to help you along your skills training journey. If you're a student attending either Bow Valley or NorQuest, make sure to check out their Indigenous student services available to you!

September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - a day to recognize and remember the enduring impacts Residential Schools had and still has on Indigenous children, their families, and communities.

As an ISET holder at an Indigenous organization, we recognize that education, training, and meaningful employment can play an important role in supporting Indigenous Peoples in building strong, self-determined futures.

We honour the history of Residential Schools, and strive to continue to uplift our students and community members with respect and understanding as they move through their skills training journey.

As students enter their first year or return to their studies, it can be tough to transition from summer mode to school mode. Luckily, we have some tips for you!

✅Scope out a good study spot on campus, off campus, or in your home. Having a designated study area will help keep you focused!
✅Keep a calendar or planner to keep track of assignments.
✅Make time for activities. While studying is important, socializing is too - take breaks, hang with friends, or join a club!
✅Meal plan. It can be tempting to only eat out when you're on the go, but taking time to make a meal will not only give you a break from your studies, but also be a healthier option for you.
✅Find your Indigenous Student Centre on campus or a local Friendship Centre to stay connected.

The Indigenous Foundation (TIF) is a grassroots, youth-led, non-profit organization that advocates for and educates on Indigenous rights across the world. This organization has a huge following on social media, and reaches over 2 million people through their podcast, articles, and posts. Their mission is to amplify Indigenous voices, educate folks on Indigenous rights, and advocate for accountability.

They are looking to hire for a few positions on their team!
