Canine Haven Rescue 100% non-profit organization in Durham Region. In-home foster based rescue for street dogs and those Reads comment and follow advice at your own risk.

Canine Haven Rescue is a dog rescue located in Ontario, Canada. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, foster home based organization. None of our dogs are boarded in kennels upon arrival in Canada and each rescue dog lives in a foster home prior to adoption. We specialize in rescuing dogs from abroad and re-homing them locally. All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and subject to a health check prior to adoption. Potential adopters and fosters must first fill out an application form, have their references checked and have a home visit before placement. All donations and proceeds are designated to the care and support of the dogs and their veterinary fees. Some dogs undergo various operations prior to being adopted and these costs are high.

It's alumni Wednesday and today we're chatting about Glenn!!

Glenn found his forever family over two years ago and he has since joined a pack of (human) brothers to cuddle and play with. Let's hear from his PAWrent:

"We are doing great!

Glenn is still the biggest snuggle bug ever.  He is the best boy.  He is still the favourite at his vet clinic and they are so excited when he comes in for his shots every year.

He absolutely loves napping outside in the shade and LOVES his rolly pollys  in the grass as my son calls them."

Follow along for more updates like Glenn's every Wednesday.

HONEY / Female / 3yrs 8mths / 55lbs / Mixed Breed / Pulled from shelter as an unclaimed stray / Fostered in Toronto (East York)

Good with other dogs and kids / High prey drive - No cats or small pets please / House and crate trained

Life is sweeter with a little Honey!

Meet Honey: a big-hearted, goofy girl who loves everyone she meets. She’s happiest with her people, a good toy, a game of fetch, and plenty of opportunities for snuggles! We don’t know much about her past, but we do know she’s so ready for a life filled with love and kisses with her furever family.

At home, Honey is an absolute angel. She’s non-destructive, comfortable in her crate, and happy to entertain herself with her toys. She loves fetch and getting the zoomies outside, but once she’s had her exercise, she’s content to curl up on the couch or her bed and snooze.

Honey is currently working through some leash reactivity such as pulling and barking, so slow, thoughtful introductions, redirection, and continued positive associations with other dogs will be important for her success. She hasn’t shown any concerning or negative behaviour toward dogs off leash, but her furever family should support giving her the time and space to learn appropriate leash manners around dogs. Because of this, Honey would ideally live in a quiet neighbourhood.

If you’re looking for a loyal, silly, affectionate best friend who will greet you with a wagging tail, entertain you with goofy zoomies, and happily flop over for belly rubs, Honey might just be your girl. She has so much love to give and is ready to find her forever family!

It's alumni Wednesday ~ let's get an update on Otis ✨💙

Otis found her forever family over a year ago, joining her pawrents as well as two canine brothers who were also rescues themselves.

"We met Otis in May 2025 (along with her “sister,” whom we fostered for the first few weeks), and somehow this year has completely flown by. It’s hard to imagine our lives without her now.

Our two older rescue boys honestly had no idea what hit them when Otis arrived. She came in like a whirlwind — a bundle of energy, enthusiasm, and pure joy that could not (and would not) be ignored. She has given them a second childhood this year. While they can’t quite match her energy, they do their best to keep up, and Otis has become an expert at figuring out exactly how much fun she can convince each of them to have.

Otis is endlessly curious and excited about the world around her — always wondering what might be around the corner, behind the tree, or (especially) under the snow. She approaches life with incredible enthusiasm and is truly a happy-go-lucky soul.

She is also a professional play instigator. Otis seeks out physical play from anyone willing to participate — human or canine. She loves a good game of “soccer” with her big ball, chasing anything we throw, and if we eventually run out of energy before she does… well, she has no problem throwing the toy for herself and carrying on the fun.

She has brought so much laughter, chaos, love, and personality into our home. Otis is our wild child — wildly energetic, endlessly entertaining, and completely lovable. We feel incredibly lucky that she found her way to us, and we can’t wait to see what adventures the next year brings."

(Psssssst! Otis and her brothers are currently fostering Cash. You might see this sweet girl again alongside Cash updates!)

✨✨ Celebrating September's Success Stories & the Fantastic Fosters Who Made It Possible ✨✨

As a foster-based rescue, we rely solely on the generosity of families opening up their homes to foster dogs and helping them find their final, forever destination. Whether it's fostering or foster-to-adopt, we truly appreciate and value the dedication of our foster families.

So much time, patience, and love goes into being a foster parent but it changes one life at a time and helps prepare them for their future families.

We had four adoptions this September which means four special dogs have found a safe place to rest their heads in their FURever homes. Thank you Katie, Shannon, Amy, and Zohar for taking a chance on these pups and helping them get the life they deserve.
