Exciting news! The Rotary Foundation has approved a global grant "Corner of Knowledge", co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Villavicencio and the Rotary Club of Orleans, for a total of $ 35448 US dollars. This grant will provide education to illiterate children in Columbia. Our funding was in part made possible from the May Mother's Day Tea party contribution, plus contributions from other District 7040's Rotary Clubs and individual Rotarians. This project was initiated within our District by PDG Teresa Whitmore. Bravo!

We had fun in Cumberland last night during our social event. We sampled craft beer and pizza and were given a tour. What a gorgeous building with its vintage beams and stones. Thanks Musset for introducing us to this special social spot.

Just announced by Councillor LAura Dudas that we have been awarded the 2026 Gem award for the Best Community Social Organization!! We are truly honoured, this is an award which is determined by the community we serve. Thank you!!!

Today we celebrated 24 local youths at our Young People of Character awards at the Shenkman theatre for their leadership, creativity, etc.

Winners (listed in the Order of presentation) were Clara Dorcil, Asael Kwessu, Gabriela Fornazzari, Najwa Adem, David Bamidele, Kayla Benoit, Mishaal Haider, Sophia Labrecque, Paige Lavictoire, Dylan Marleau, Fedora Rimbeau. Annika Jacque, Daniel Laniyan, Alyssa Larivière, Maas Malik, Victoria Milette, Olivia Rodger, Lexi Seewalt, Taisei Tan, Anika Suthakaran, Ansel Anu Thomas, Avionah Williams, Fatima Hammond and Liam Apóstol.

Fatima Hammond, Sir Wilfred HS, won a scholarship from Patricia Slaunwhite and Nathan Phillips, presented by Hailee Bennett

Liam Apostal, St Peter HS, also won a scholarship from TopRankinmortgages, presented by Sean Rankin.

On Saturday May 30th, Capital City Church and the Rotary Club of Orleans' bread rescue volunteers met and enjoyed a backyard gathering at Jane's to acknowledge two years of partnering together to rescue leftover bread and pastry from COBS Bakery for parking and distribution to people suffering food insecurity in our community. We captured a picture of the group in the backyard. Thanks team for all your work over the two years to make a difference in the community!

Last night we hosted an open house and welcomed leaders from around the community to discuss the needs of our community and the idea of working together. Participation included local City councillors and several community association representatives. So much energy in the room! This was our first meeting of this nature, we plan to build on this success. Special thanks goes out to our Community Services committee and Membership committee aS well as to Hamza who facilitated the discussions. We also celebrated Gayle’s Birthday with a cake and song.

Today, we hosted a fundraising event for an underprivileged children's learning centre, featuring bilingual reusable Canada signs are available for purchase at $15 each.
