Ladies Auxiliary Orleans Branch 632

Ladies Auxiliary Orleans Branch 632 WELCOME! To help support the aims and objectives of The Royal Canadian Legion. We also provide financial and volunteer support to the Legion programs.

The Legion was founded in November, 1925 in Winnipeg and chartered in July 1926 by special act of Parliament. However, veteran’s welfare and assistance had been carried on since 1916. During the 1914-1918 war years as wounded veterans returned home, women were asked to help with their recovery by visiting hospitals, sending parcels to hospitalized and needy families, raising funds in general, thes

e ladies service the veterans and their dependents. Thus, our Ladies’ Auxiliary unofficially became a reality. LADIES’ AUXILIARY OBJECTIVES

The purpose and the duty of the members of the Ladies Auxiliary shall be to assist the Branch in its activities to carry out the Purposes and Objectives of the Legion. New members at initiation pledge themselves to abide by the spirit of the By-Laws and regulations. A membership badge, card, and the By-Laws are presented to them during the service. Finally, as the first and most important object of the Auxiliary is to “perpetuate a close and kindly feeling among the members” they are asked to let this spirit of kindliness guide them in all their dealings with members, in committee work and in General meetings. Your attendance and participation at Auxiliary meeting sis the best way to derive the most from your membership! The Auxiliary needs your support – come join us in services and fellowship. As the individual Branches are the most important element in the structure of the Royal Canadian Legion, thus the Ladies Auxiliary becomes a very integral part of the work of the Legion at all levels. Becoming an Auxiliary member can be a very rewarding experience. Our Auxiliary goals are important to us, but so are our members. Therefore they ensure that activities are planned for you to enjoy as well. It is recognized that not everyone wants to or can give the same time commitment to the Auxiliary, be we are grateful for whatever time you can spare to assist the work of this great national organization. The Ladies Auxiliary has many fund raising activity throughout the year and funds raised locally usually are given to assist the operation of their local Legion buildings, health facilities and programs, school activities, or bursaries, sponsorship of Cadets, Girl Guides, Brownies as well as other charitable organizations. We are known for our visitation to the sick and shut-in, especially visiting our vets in hospitals and nursing homes. REMEMBERANCE/POPPY

The Ladies Auxiliary assists with perpetuating the tradition of Remembrance through activities surrounding ceremonies and events on, or around November 11th. This includes National Poster and Literary contest for students in our school system to participate in each year with awards at the Branch, Zone, District, Provincial and Dominion Levels. REMEMBERANCE DAY

At 11:00 A.M. on November 18, 1918, the guns fell silent, marking the end of World War1. November 11th came to be known as REMEMBRANCE DAY – a day each year for Canadians to remember the sacrifice of those who fell during that war and later conflicts in which Canadians served. Of special significance on that day is the appropriate marking of the 11th hour at services across this great nation. COMMUNITY SERVICE

A goal to improve the quality of life, including seniors and Youth-Working, for all those in our communities, especially those less fortunate, less privileged or in failing health. BURSARY

Approved bursary assistance is available for students attending a Post-Secondary Institution leading to a recognized degree or diploma. LADIES AUXILIARY SPORTS ACTIVITIES

The Auxiliaries enjoy friendly competition within our Command such as Bowling, Cribbage, Darts and Euchre tournaments.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM”
Response: “WE WILL REMEMBER THEM”
