The Alive House Foundation, founded in 2023, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing proactive and diversified services to homeless people in Canada. The Foundation will provide a range of services to people in need,

including housing, education, employment support, healthcare and legal assistance to improve their quality of life while achieving a balance between quality and sustainability.

We’re delighted to welcome Srijain (Sree-Jane) Shrestha as Co-Executive Lead at Alive House!

With experience across the non-profit and global health sectors, Srijain brings a collaborative spirit, a global perspective, and a deep commitment to creating employment opportunities for newcomers and advancing housing as a fundamental human right.

Here’s a message from Srijain:

“Hello everyone! My name is Srijain Man Shrestha and I am a proud Nepali-Canadian. I was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and immigrated to Canada with my family when I was seven years old. Since coming to Canada, I have called the province of New Brunswick my home. During my undergraduate years, I earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Brunswick and subsequently a Master’s of Management in Applied Sciences in Global Health Systems from Western University. My professional experience entails working within the non-profit and global health sectors.

I love to collaborate, communicate, and learn about other cultures! Some of the things I enjoy most are reading and watching films from around the world. I love to learn other languages and I am currently trying to learn French. So if you see me, please feel free to speak in French and I will try my best to converse!

I am very excited to be working alongside other Alive House members to help catalyze employment opportunities for newcomers and I deeply believe in housing as a fundamental human right for all.”

📣 Alive House is looking for a Board Treasurer!

Are you an experienced finance or accounting professional who is passionate about community impact, economic inclusion and belonging?

Alive House is working to become a national leader in belonging-centered economic inclusion. We connect employers, communities and systems to create pathways for newcomers, refugees and international students to thrive.

As Board Treasurer, you will help guide our financial stewardship, review budgets and forecasts, strengthen financial policies, and support our long-term growth and stability.

What we’re looking for:

✅ 3+ years of experience in accounting, finance or financial management
✅ 3+ years of experience working with nonprofit organizations
✅ Strong organizational and time-management skills
✅ Commitment to Alive House’s mission and strategic direction
✅ An inclusive perspective and openness to learning

⏱ Time commitment: Approximately 4–5 hours per month
📅 Term: Two years, with the option to renew

We are honoured to welcome Mabel Chu as one of our featured panelists at the Belonging Tour PEI Conference on Friday, July 24!

Mabel is a respected community and business leader who serves as Chair of Canada Day Drumming PEI and President of the World Chinese Business Association of Canada (Charlottetown Chapter).

With an international background spanning Hong Kong, Asia, and Canada, Mabel has dedicated her career to building bridges across cultures through community leadership, economic engagement, and meaningful collaboration. Her work focuses on supporting newcomers, strengthening workforce pathways, creating employment opportunities, and advancing inclusive economic development throughout Prince Edward Island.

Mabel is also a passionate advocate for cultural inclusion and community belonging. Through her leadership with Canada Day Drumming, she brings multicultural communities together to celebrate diversity, foster connection, and create shared experiences that strengthen communities across Canada.

Speaker Announcement | Belonging Tour PEI 2026

We are excited to welcome Maria Boneo as one of our panel speakers for the Student Session at the Belonging Tour PEI Conference!

Maria is an Estates Paralegal and a recent graduate of Holland College, where she completed her studies in Legal Administration. Originally from Trinidad, Maria brings an international perspective shaped by her experience studying, living, and building community in Prince Edward Island.

Now calling PEI home, Maria is actively involved in her community, including through the Catholic Women’s League. She will join us to share her perspective on what it means to study, belong, and build a future in PEI as an international student.

As we prepare for the Belonging Tour in Charlottetown, PEI next month, we are deeply honoured to have the support of His Honour, the Honourable Dr. Wassim Salamoun, OPEI, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.

Earlier this year, our Co-Founder, Templeton Sawyer , had the privilege of meeting with His Honour to share the vision behind the Belonging Tour and the growing impact it is having in creating spaces where newcomers, employers, community leaders, and partners come together to strengthen belonging across Canada.

We are sincerely grateful for His Honour’s encouragement and for his thoughtful letter recognizing the importance of this work. His support is a meaningful reminder that building welcoming, inclusive communities requires leadership and collaboration at every level.

We look forward to bringing community together on July 24, 2026, at Holland College Tourism & Culinary Centre as we continue important conversations on belonging, workforce inclusion, and the future of immigration in Prince Edward Island.
