Dear Members,

Our local executive received notice of elimination for 26 positions and the creation of 12 new positions yesterday. Although the Local is happy the employer is creating new positions, this still leaves us with 14 eliminated positions. The majority of the eliminated positions are within the Personal Support Worker and Clerical services. Front line service cuts are never the answer to budget problems.

The local union is invoking our Redeployment Committee mandate and will be meeting with the employer within 2 weeks. Our goal is to meet with all affected employees within 3 weeks.

Last year, YOU, our incredible members came together in an amazing show of union solidarity. Together we pressured the government to announce almost $30 million in new base funding for our hospital. I am confident with the support of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU) and CUPE WE will be successful in having the government fund our hospital at the 6% increase needed to reverse these latest cuts

Hello,

You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph, and in partnership with the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions – Canadian Union of Public Employees (OCHU-CUPE).

The purpose of this research is to learn about experiences of violence in the workplace for OCHU members, and to better understand what factors may influence the rates and types of violence against health care workers. We are currently seeking OCHU members who are 18 years or older to complete a 10-15-minute anonymous survey.

The decision to participate is completely voluntary, and we will not ask for any information that directly identifies you within the survey. We will collect IP addresses, however, this will not be shared beyond the research team.

If you wish, you may enter a draw to win 1 of 20 gift cards, valued at $50 each. You may also give us your contact information if you are interested in being contacted for future research (e.g., interviews). To do so, you will be sent to a separate survey, where you will be asked to give us your contact information. You do not have to provide this information, and your contact information will not be linked in any way to your survey responses.

This project has been reviewed by the Research Ethics Board for compliance with federal guidelines for research involving human participants (REB # 2756).

Just a quick update regarding our coverage: CUPE mental health benefits are increasing from $900 to $1,000 per year, starting September 29, 2026. Because of this improvement, you will see a 0.8% increase in the extended health benefit rate starting October 1st. Please see the table below
