November 1-7 is Treaties Recognition Week, an opportunity to learn about the history and significance of treaties and treaty relationships in Ontario.

The 1875 Halfbreed Adhesion to Treaty No. 3 is a unique chapter in Métis treaty history. Signed by representatives of the Halfbreeds of Rainy Lake and Rainy River, it established commitments that the Northwestern Ontario Métis Community continues to seek recognition and implementation of today.

The Adhesion remains the only known instance of a Métis community collectively joining one of Canada's historic numbered treaties with the Crown. It is an important part of the history of the Northwestern Ontario Métis Community and its longstanding efforts to secure recognition of its rights.

Join the Métis Nation of Ontario for its 8th Annual Early Learning and Child Care Conference, taking place February 27–28, 2027, at White Oaks Resort and Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

This year's theme, “Rooted in Story: Exploring the Power of Storytelling Through Music, Movement, and Connection,” invites educators to explore the many ways stories can be experienced, shared and lived.

Through music, movement, relationships and creative expression, participants will discover how storytelling can enrich learning environments, strengthen children's sense of identity and honour Métis culture and ways of being.

Got something to say about Indigenous youth mental health? We want to hear it. 📸

We’re looking for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth ages 12–17 from across Ontario to join a creative online project about mental health and well-being.

Over six weekly virtual sessions, you’ll use photography and storytelling to share what matters to you, connect with other Indigenous youth, and help adults better understand what young people need.

What you need to know:

📷 Sessions begin November 9, 2026
📷 You’ll need access to a digital camera
📷 There is an optional one-to-one interview
📷 Participants will receive a small honorarium
📷 Participation is voluntary

This project is part of a research study, so research consent is required.

Public Service Announcement: Health Unit Announces More Clinics for Flu, COVID-19, RSV Vaccines

NORTH BAY, ON – The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has released its walk-in clinic schedule for individuals aged six months and older who do not have a primary care provider. The community clinics will offer flu shots and COVID-19 vaccines, with the option for eligible adults to receive the RSV vaccine.

Participating pharmacies and primary care providers continue to offer flu and COVID-19 vaccines across the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts.

It’s Bat Week!

From October 24–31, we’re shining a light on Ontario’s bats and the important role they play in our environment.

Ontario is home to eight bat species, seven of which are species at risk. Through the MNO’s Acoustic Bat Monitoring Program, in partnership with the Toronto Zoo, MNO citizens are helping researchers better understand bat populations and support conservation efforts.
