We are pleased to share Episode 2 of the One Door Podcast from the Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre & Sexual Assault Services Association.

This episode shines a light on the realities of accessing women’s healthcare in rural Nova Scotia. Nurse practitioner Pam Reyes and clinic coordinator Denise Hart discuss provider shortages, long waitlists, chronic health concerns, the limits of virtual care, trauma-informed in-person healthcare, and the barriers facing rural communities.

The conversation also explores the vision for One Door and what a more accessible, collaborative, and community-based approach to healthcare could look like.

Listen to the episode below or wherever you get your podcasts, and learn more about the One Door initiative through the original post. 💜

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is not limited to physical violence. It can include any word, action, or attempt to degrade, control, humiliate, intimidate, coerce, deprive, threaten, or harm another person. Neglect and harassment can also be forms of GBV.

Abuse can happen at any age and older adults in Canada are often affected. From 2018 to 2023, intimate partner violence increased by 36% among seniors aged 65+. In 2023 alone, more than 7,000 seniors reported being victims of family violence. Over 57% of victims were women, most often harmed by their spouse.

So, check in on the seniors in your lives, and commit to creating safer, more respectful communities for everyone.
