It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that SCNL announces the passing of our dear friend and colleague Christine Greene. Christine was a valued volunteer with Skills Canada for over 25 years; she first became involved as a knowledgeable, passionate educator providing advice and mentorship. Over the years, she volunteered in many roles including provincial and national technical committee members, school board liaison, judge and mentor.

Christine served as both a Provincial and National Board Member for Skills Canada, most recently as the President / Chair of the Board of Directors of Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador. Christine’s dedication was remarkable; she devoted significant time as a Skills Canada volunteer and will forever be remembered for her kindness, enthusiasm and dedicated leadership.

The Skills Canada family extends our deepest sympathy and sends love to Christine’s husband Mike, daughter Allison and niece Roseanne, all of whom have not only shared Christine’s time with us all these years but who have also been volunteers themselves, sharing and supporting her passion. She will be forever missed; her impact will have a lasting and immeasurable legacy.

We will all miss her most brilliant and joyful smile and hold dear our many joyful memories shared.

Earlier this year, SCNL held a classroom video contest as part of our Emerging Careers program. Classes were tasked with creating a green themed Rube Goldberg machine, completed out of school materials. Congratulations to our winners, the French 1200 class of Valmont Academy in King's Point! Their five participants created this awesome machine - check it out in action!

Thank you so much for the kind words, Premier Wakeham!

Sending a big congrats to our competitors from Carpenter Millwright College for the hard work and passion they brought to the Nationals floor! We'd also like to express our gratitude to CMC for being so great to work with and for helping train and inspire the future workforce!

Congratulations to our talented apprentices who attended the Skills Canada National Competition 2026 in Toronto last month! We are incredibly proud to celebrate our standout competitors from the Carpenter Millwright College (CMC) in Paradise, NL. and CNA Brandon Clarke (Carpenter Apprentice) advanced from Provincial Gold to showcase incredible precision and dedication on the national stage! Jamie Coombs (CMC Millwright/Industrial Mechanic Apprentice): Brought home the National Bronze Medal for CMC. Shoutout to Red Seal Carpentry Instructor Amos Pynn, who served as a competition judge and supported the future of skilled trades.
