🇨🇦🎖️ Some names become part of a community’s history forever.

Corporal Brian Pinksen of Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, dreamed of serving his country from a young age and joined the reserves while still in high school. He later deployed to Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group.

On August 22, 2010, Pinksen was injured during a patrol in Afghanistan. He died from his injuries eight days later, on August 30, 2010, at just 20 years old.

Today, Cpl Pinksen Memorial Drive in Corner Brook stands as a lasting reminder of his life and service. The memorial road was created by his community, with its sign unveiled in October 2011. 🇨🇦🕊️

Kandahar, Afghanistan

Four Canadian soldiers were killed and nine others wounded during heavy fighting as part of a major International Security Assistance Force air and ground offensive against Taliban insurgents approximately 15 km west of Kandahar City, Afghanistan.

Sgt Shane Hank Stachnik, WO Frank Robert Mellish CD, WO Richard Francis Nolan CD and Pte William Jonathan James Cushley were Killed In Action during killed during Operation Medusa, a ground offensive against the Taliban in southern Afghanistan.

Cpl. Michael Seggie came from a family with a long tradition of military service.

Cpl. Andrew “Drew” Grenon was known for his positive spirit and bravery.

Pte. Chadwick Horn earned the respect of his comrades through his hard work and courage.

All three were just days or weeks away from returning home when they were killed in Afghanistan on September 3, 2008.

Today, we honour their memory and reflect on the sacrifice they made in service to Canada.

Today is Merchant Navy Veterans Day. We Remember and honour the extraordinary courage of the civilian mariners who braved the waters during the Second World War.

Those who served in Canada's Merchant Navy, Canada’s fleet of transport ships that carried desperately needed equipment, fuel, goods, and personnel to Europe and around the world, had to do their vital job knowing that their ships were prime targets for enemy action.

We Will Remember Them

From a young age, Corporal Brian Pinksen dreamed of serving his country. While still in high school in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, he joined the reserves.

Brian deployed to Afghanistan as part of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group.

In August 2010, he was struck by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol southwest of Kandahar. He died eight days later as a result of his wounds. He was 20 years old.

Today, Cpl Pinksen Memorial Drive in his hometown stands as a lasting tribute to his service, courage and sacrifice.

Well we just made Ryan Parsons (ticket # 0214)from Happy Valley Goose Bay a very happy man!! He just won draw # 12 of our Provincial Command Calendar Draw and will receive a cheque for a nice $1000.00!!! A great way to get a weekend started!! His ticket will go back in the “BIG DRUM” for all remaining draws including……. YES the BIG $10,000.00 draw on December 17th. But we still have 6 more draws to make before that!
