Vent Over Tea Vent Over Tea is a free volunteer-run active listening service based in Montreal, Quebec. Are you dealing with a problem and need to talk?

Meet with one of volunteers at a nearby coffee shop to vent over a cup of tea. Our name says it all – we are here to listen. Vent over Tea is a Montreal-based, volunteer-run listening service aiming to provide a casual, confidential and non-judgmental outlet for stressed members of our community. The program is based on the proven benefits of sharing your personal problems with a compassionate listener. Our volunteers are here to help you work through your problems by allowing you to vent about the source of your distress. Vent over Tea volunteers are university students and recent grads who are trained in active listening and, just like you, have been in difficult situations. All of our volunteers are caring and compassionate listeners, and they are here to provide support. The service is free and easily accessible. Let us know you want to meet with a volunteer through our website and one of our volunteers will set up a time to meet with you promptly.

Join us as we bring you along on a Sketch Walk taking place in the Little Burgundy neighborhood led by visual artist Cat Lau.

🚶Walks are a great way to get in touch with your surroundings and move with intention. They can also be used as a daily tool to maintain mental wellness. Walks promote the release of endorphins, which overall improve your mood and reduce stress levels.

✏️ Drawing during this sketch walk offers you a way to visit paths and streets through a more present state.

This sketch walk presents you with a moment to let yourself play and let go of expectations while drawing. Be present in the moment, and appreciate every stroke you make as part of the process. The goal is to detach yourself from perfection and accuracy, and hone in on what you notice and how you feel.

We will travel at an easy pace and make stops at interesting spots throughout the two hour period. At the end of the walk, we will discuss our experience and the process of creation at our last stop, Café Ma Bicyclette 💭

About your host ✨
Cat is a visual science communicator, bridging art and science to make information more accessible and engaging. As a self-taught artist, she works across traditional and digital illustration and also creates mixed media work with paper-based and painting materials. Her practice draws on observations of the natural world and their connections to our lived experiences.

Guess what we’re bringing back this September? Join us at our Intergenerational Death Café in collaboration with The Yellow Door, an event that welcomes individuals across all ages and walks of life to discuss the too often taboo topic of death in a safe and comfortable environment.

At this Intergenerational Death Café, we’ll share experiences, reflections, and questions about death, dying, and bereavement. We’ll journey through topics as vast as the afterlife and as intimate as the legacy we hope to leave behind.

Our goal is to create a space where we can learn from each other and explore different perspectives on this universal human experience. Guiding questions will be available to start the discussion, but the conversation’s direction will unfold naturally, shaped by the voices in the room.

An event during the transition for many of us, from summer to fall, an opportunity to discuss endings and new beginnings, and how death may shape our experiences. Expect to meet new people across many generations, hear fascinating stories, gain insights into your own relationship with death, and leave with new ideas to reflect on. We encourage you to bring an open mind, a sense of curiosity, and a willingness to engage in respectful dialogue with people from different backgrounds and generations.

David Robinson (he/him) is a crisis intervention worker, workshop facilitator, and member of a mutual support group. He has facilitated workshops on loneliness and togetherness, active listening, and creating + maintaining mutual support groups. He has also hosted numerous conversations on death and dying using the Death Cafe model.

Eleven years ago, Vent Over Tea started as a simple idea: giving people a free, confidential space to sit down, sip a warm drink, and just talk to someone who listens. Looking back at over a decade of growth, we genuinely couldn’t have imagined the incredible journey this community would take us on.

Whether you’ve been with us since the early days or you’re just discovering us now, we’re here to listen. Our active listening services are available in person at local cafes in select regions, or virtually, always free and confidential.

To mark how far we’ve come, our Project Manager, Saria, created a new video that captures the heart of our mission. Give it a watch, say hi in the comments, and share our service with anyone who might need a reminder that they don’t have to carry everything alone.
