Decoding Dyslexia - Quebec Decoding Dyslexia Quebec is a voluntary, parent-led, grass roots movement. This group is for parents and anyone who wants to learn more about dyslexia.

The goal of this group is to broaden our understanding about dyslexia and spread awareness. The Decoding Dyslexia movement started in the United States and today you will find DD in every state and now in 6 provinces in Canada. We are here to support families and their dyslexic children and together to learn, listen, support, ask questions and share. A page to find information, resources and network with other families. We advocate for evidence-based practices for identification, remediation and support for students with dyslexia in Quebec.

10 years. A lasting impact. ❤️

Ten years ago, Dyslexia Canada was founded with a shared belief: every child with dyslexia deserves a fair and equitable education.

Since then, Canada has seen significant progress in recognizing the importance of identifying reading difficulties early and using evidence-based approaches to support students.

In 2016, no school in Canada had requirements for the use of evidence-based tools to assess reading, an important step to guide the effective instruction that is necessary so all children learn to read.

This fall, 76% of children from Kindergarten to Grade 2 are expected to be screened.

That's progress worth recognizing, and it's progress that has taken the dedication of families, educators, advocates, researchers, and community organizations working together.

But there is still more work to do.

As we celebrate 10 years of Dyslexia Canada, we're looking ahead to the next decade—and to what we can accomplish together.

The student with the lowest grade might be the one working the hardest.

Same test. Different climb.

For students with dyslexia, that climb can be a lot steeper. We see the grade, but we don't always see the extra practice, reading intervention, frustration, determination, and hours spent at home trying to master skills that come more easily to others.

For some students, getting a 65% took everything they had. We need to remember that not every student starts at the same place, and not every climb looks the same.

There's a misconception that if a student is gifted, they can't have dyslexia. The truth is that dyslexia doesn't discriminate and is not determined by intelligence. Gifted students absolutely can have dyslexia.
