The Sackville Minor Hockey Association has been providing a fun and safe environment for kids to play

The Sackville Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) operates out of Lower Sackville, in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Our membership is drawn from Lower Sackville, Middle Sackville, Upper Sackville, Lucasville, Beaver Bank, and Windsor Junction. The Sackville Flyers are one of three Minor Hockey Associations that make up the Halifax East Region of Hockey Nova Scotia. We are proud to use the Sackville Arena and the Sackville Sports Stadium as our home base. The association is governed by Executive Officers who are elected by the membership for a period of 2 years. The day to day operations of the association is handled by the Board of Directors, which includes the Executive Officers and Directors appointed by the Executive. More information about the roles and responsibilities of each position can be found in our Constitution on our website. SMHA provides hockey programs for about 800 children each year, at all age ranges and all levels of competition. Please see our website for news and information on each of the specific programs. We would not be able to offer these programs without a dedicated group of volunteer coaches, managers, trainers and coordinators. If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please let us know. Hockey Nova Scotia mandates that all volunteers including coaches complete the Volunteer Screening process. This process includes the completion of a Criminal Records Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector, and a number of online courses through Hockey Canada. More information can be found on the "Coach and Volunteer Certifications" page of our website. Our association has several awards that pay tribute to some of our greatest alumni. The James Sheppard Award is given to a player who shows strong leadership skills, academic achievement and athletic ability. The Bernie Bishop Coach of the Year Award is given to a coach who best demonstrates some of the values Bernie stood for; commitment, dedication and mentorship.

Just in FYI to everyone: A tournament scam reported out west is targeting minor hockey teams with fake invitations, and we have been informed it is now happening in Nova Scotia, too.
One association has received an invitation that looked like it came from the JOE, we do not send out personal association invitations to our tournament. If you have any concerns please let us know!

Happy Thanksgiving from Sackville Minor Hockey Association! 🏒🧡🖤

On behalf of myself and the entire Board of Sackville Minor Hockey Association, I would like to wish all our players, coaches, team officials, volunteers, and families a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving weekend!

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the many things we are grateful for, and here at SMHA, we have so much to be thankful for.

We are especially thankful for our incredible volunteers, dedicated coaches, supportive families, and, of course, our amazing young hockey players who proudly wear the Sackville Flyers colours.

Our association is more than just hockey. It is a community built on friendships, teamwork, dedication, respect, and a shared love of the game. It is the people who make our association so special.

As we celebrate our 55th anniversary season, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to have such a wonderful hockey community and so many people who generously give their time to make a positive difference in the lives of our young athletes.

Whether you are spending the weekend at the rink, enjoying time with family and friends, or sitting down for a Thanksgiving meal, I hope you find time to relax, make memories, and appreciate the people who matter most.

From our Flyers family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving! Stay safe, enjoy the long weekend, and thank you for being part of our hockey family! 🍁🏒

Flyers Pride! 🧡🖤

Warm regards,

Robert Nurnber
