Downtown Construction Update

Front sidewalks are now open, and access to downtown businesses through their front entrances has been restored.

While this marks an important step forward in the downtown revitalization project, construction remains active as crews complete the final stages of work, including roadway improvements and landscaping.

Residents and visitors are reminded to remain mindful of construction equipment and personnel while visiting the area.

Thank you to downtown businesses, residents, and visitors for their continued patience throughout these improvements.

Did you know that the murals throughout downtown are the result of partnerships between local artists and property owners? The City doesn't select the mural artist or the artwork itself. Through Level 5 of the Downtown Façade and Building Improvement Grant, funding is provided to help bring these projects to life, while property owners and artists collaborate on the creative vision.

Because of this, each mural becomes a reflection of the business it calls home, showcasing the personality, values, and style of both the business owner and the artist. That's part of what makes downtown's collection of murals so unique!

Artists: See a downtown building that would make a great canvas? Reach out to the property owner and explore the possibility of partnering on a mural project together.

Level 2 of the Downtown Façade and Building Improvement Grant provides up to $25,000 in financing, with 25% forgivable upon successful project completion.
This funding stream supports comprehensive exterior building improvements that enhance the appearance, functionality, and long-term value of downtown properties while contributing to the continued revitalization of the downtown core.

Earlier this month, the Downtown Area Redevelopment Committee (DARC) presented its annual update to City Council, highlighting progress made in 2026 toward implementing the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP).

Downtown revitalization involves more than construction alone. It includes infrastructure renewal, parking and accessibility improvements, business incentives, community safety initiatives, public art, events, and ongoing collaboration between businesses, community members, and the City.

The City’s work includes prevention, outreach, enforcement, and connections to community supports. Initiatives such as the Enforcement and Navigation Unit (ENU), the Housing Working Group, and partnerships with local service providers help connect individuals with available resources and support broader community needs.

This stunning wraparound mural at Unwind Salon & Spa was completed through the Downtown Façade and Building Improvement Grant! Created by Harwell Teves, this mural has brought new life to an already beautiful building. The combination of the artwork and historic brick façade complement each other so well, creating one of downtown's most eye-catching corners.

A heartfelt thank you to Kathy and the team at Unwind Hair Salon for investing in their property and contributing to downtown's ongoing revitalization.
