Learning doesn’t have an age limit. And sometimes, a little help can open a very big door. 📚

That’s exactly why we’re proud to showcase one of our Chamber members, the County of Lacombe Lifelong Learning Association (CLLLA).

CLLLA works with adults throughout our community who want to build skills, gain confidence and create new opportunities for themselves. That could mean improving reading and writing, strengthening math skills, learning English, developing computer skills, or learning programs such as Microsoft Office and accounting software.

What we really appreciate about is that learning is personal. They can work one-on-one with adult learners to develop a plan around their goals and where they are starting from, rather than expecting everyone to learn the same way. They also offer English language learning, tutoring and a variety of courses and employment-focused programs.

And there’s another side to this organization that deserves some attention: you can be part of someone else’s success.

CLLLA is looking for volunteer tutors who can spend just one or two hours a week helping an adult improve their English or math skills. Training is provided. That small commitment of time could make an enormous difference in someone’s confidence and future.

Organizations like CLLLA may quietly do their work behind the scenes, but the impact reaches throughout our entire community. When people have the opportunity to learn, improve their skills and move forward, our workplaces, families and communities all become stronger.

Last night was the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce 2026 Business Award Gala. A night of elegance, glamour, phenomenal food, ch*****ne, with great people all coming together to celebrate each other.

I was absolutely blown away to called as the winner of the Home Based Business of the year. To be chosen from such an absolutely amazing group of other businesses was not something I was expecting. So much so that I wasn't even nervous until my boss wished me good luck yesterday. Oh. Right. Im in this contest too. But there I was. County Waters Kayaking name being called to the stage.

So with that, there are Thank Yous that need said.

I wouldn't have been standing up there holding that award without a huge crew of help and supporters. I can't possibly thank all of them in one shot but I'll do my best.

-Firstly, to Myra, for despite the angst created for her child labour, she was the motivation to start kayaking again and get this business going.

-To Tyler, Jen and the whole Carriage Upholstery family for supporting the journey getting the business going and allowing me the time off to paddle.

-To Fred Brotherton for coming up with the name and letting me steal him away from Angela (an excellent proofreader i might add) to help with tours when extra eyes were needed.

-Jacqui, the first to paddle with me, she took the leap to trust someone new in the area. She has become a great friend and kayak freak like me.

-Danielle, who's energy and passion for paddling has given me renewed enthusiasm to grow and be better

-DNA Gardens for their catering and Trenville Park Campground for hosting us this summmer with our overnight kayak camping tours

-To all my guests, the smiles you share with me give me the most joy i could ask for. I appreciate each and every one of you. Without you, none of this magic could have happened.

A very special thank you to my love, Sean. His behind the scenes lifting, loading, fixing, moving, hauling, of the kayaks without ever complaining even when i get sand in the bed, means so much to me.

A final thank you to the Lacombe Chamber. I feel so supported, appreciated, and absolutely honored to be part of something so special.

Congratulations to all the nominees and the winners, and a big shout out to Evolution Catering in Ponoka for the best meal ever, to Joe Whitbread for the excellent MC skills, and to all the many business sponsors for the event. Thank you.
