Ten years after his last NHRA national event victory, Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame inductee Gérard Milette is back in the winner's circle.

The Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, Québec racer captured the Top Sportsman title at the 25th annual Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee, driving his self-built 1963 Corvette to the coveted Diamond Wally.

Milette defeated Vince Hoda, Mark Roberts, Allen Firestone, and Jeff Brooks on his way to victory, highlighted by incredible .001-second reaction times in both the semifinal and final rounds.

"When Suzanne and I saw the Diamond Wally, I said, 'I want it.' And then, my first race, Diamond Wally," said Milette after the win.

Milette and partner Suzanne-Ghézabelle Poirier also thanked the many friends and collaborators who helped make the achievement possible.

Congratulations to Gérard and Suzanne on another outstanding accomplishment in an already remarkable racing career.

Dix ans après sa dernière victoire lors d'un événement national de la NHRA, l'intronisé au Temple de la renommée du drag racing canadien Gérard Milette est de retour dans le cercle des vainqueurs.

Le pilote de Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, au Québec, a remporté la catégorie Top Sportsman lors du 25e Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals à Bristol, au Tennessee, au volant de sa Corvette 1963 construite de ses propres mains, mettant ainsi la main sur le prestigieux Diamond Wally.

Milette a successivement défait Vince Hoda, Mark Roberts, Allen Firestone et Jeff Brooks pour décrocher la victoire, réalisant au passage d'impressionnants temps de réaction de .001 seconde en demi-finale et en finale.

« Quand Suzanne et moi avons vu le Diamond Wally, j'ai dit : "Je le veux." Et dès ma première course, le Diamond Wally était à nous », a déclaré Milette après sa victoire.

Milette et sa partenaire Suzanne-Ghézabelle Poirier ont également tenu à remercier les nombreux amis, collaborateurs et partenaires qui ont contribué au succès de leur programme de course au fil des années.

Félicitations à Gérard et Suzanne pour cet autre accomplissement remarquable dans une carrière déjà exceptionnelle.

The NHRA National Open, presented by the John Scotti Canadian Championship Series, is coming to Luskville Dragway on June 18-19-20, 2026.

• Thursday - Test & Tune

• Friday - Qualifying and eliminations for Stock/Super Stock, Super Street, Super Gas, Super Comp, Top Dragster/Top Sportsman, Motorcycle, and Jet Car under the lights

• Saturday - Qualifying and eliminations continue, plus Jr. Dragster races and Jet Car exhibition

Racers will compete in the following categories: Stock/Super Stock Combo, Super Street, Super Gas, Super Comp, Top Dragster/Top Sportsman, Motorcycle, Footbrake, Super Pro, Jr. Dragster, and E.T. Bracket.
Racers will be competing for valuable championship points, cash payouts, and the prestigious 75th Anniversary NHRA Wally Trophy.

Fans will also witness the incredible Beast from the East Jet Car and special guest Ernie Bogues throughout the weekend. 🔥

🏁 The 2026 Western Canadian drag season is officially underway!

Mission Raceway Park, one of Canada’s most storied facilities in the heart of the Fraser Valley, kicked off the Western Edition of the John Scotti Canadian Championship Series last weekend, with Rounds 1 & 2 running as part of the NHRA Northwest National Open.

Day 1 brought some weather headaches, but teams and officials pushed through and wrapped up a full program on Sunday in typically determined fashion. 💪

Five NHRA eliminator categories were featured for the JSCCS portion of the event: Top Comp, Super Stock/Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street.

The chase is on. 🇨🇦
