Back in 1972, a group of classical music enthusiasts started an informal association to bring to Montreal leading artistes from India to perform. Those who took an active role in organizing and funding these concerts included Kasi Anantha, A. Krishnan, Vijay Mathur, Dr.N.P.V. Seshadri, Dr.Bobby Srinivasan and Dr.M.N.S. The first concert was held in 1972 in which Eamni Sankara Sastry performed on the Veena accompanied by Trichy Sankaran. The following year, T.N. Krishnan gave Violin concert accompanied by Trichy Sankaran & Viji Krishnan. In 1974 M.S. Although the Sangham’s constitution includes a wide range of cultural activities, its primary focus has been the promotion of classical music & dance of India.

We are excited to present Dvaita-Duality "The Paradox of opposites"
Date: Saturday, February 28th, 2026
Time: 6pm
Venue: Le Gesu, 1200 Rue De Bleury, Montreal QC H3B 3J3

Contradictions, comparison and ultimately confluence, Dvaita Duality is a fusion of artistic expression and philosophical inquiry. Through two distinct dance forms, Kuchipudi and Balinese, Dvaita-Duality displays the dynamic balance of opposing energies and beautifully challenges the Colonial construct of Gender.

Centred around ‘Ardhanareeswara’, the composite form of Shiva-Shakti the androgynous God, the dance visualises the distinct yet complementary nature of the masculine and feminine energies. A layered performance, this piece explores the philosophical questions of how our consciousness (Purusha/ Male) interacts with the material world (Prakriti/Female).
Dvaita-Duality aspires to resolve the paradox of opposites not through negotiation, but by harmonious expression and positive influences of life.

They just concluded a tour of Bali and India presenting the production at The World Bali Arts Festival, Bali, National Center for Performing Arts NCPA, Mumbai, Bangalore International center, Bangalore and The Soorya Arts Festival Trivandrum India.
