Our first event of 2026 was held over Zoom on Tuesday 20 January. The session focussed on falls prevention and was presented by Skye Schwieg, Registered Kinesiologist & Program Coordinator, SMART & Fall Prevention Program, Community Support Services, Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Victorian Order of Nurses. Skye spoke on the various ways to prevent falls such as removing home hazards, lighting up your living spaces, using assistive devices and exercising to build strength. Skye also spoke on VON’s SMART program (Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together), which are seniors exercise classes available to community members 55 years and older who want to improve their strength, balance, and mobility through low-impact exercise.
