It is truly great to live in a generous community. The Hamilton Community has supported Hamilton Food Share’s hunger relief activities since its inception in 1990. Without your support Hamilton Food Share could not exist. For information on holding a food drive, please visit https://www.hamiltonfoodshare.org/ to see how you can help. There is so much that you can do and every contribution makes such a difference. Every $1 you donate to Hamilton Food Share raises $5 worth of food!

Why do we deal in food?

In part, because of special moments like these.

For the 7,000 kids who rely on food banks each month in Hamilton, food is just the beginning. But we know it’s the first thing to get right, so we can get everything else right too.

Early last week, our Purolator Tackle Hunger crew gathered at Niwasa Hamilton.

We got to see firsthand where your donations go, learn from an agency on the frontlines, and help out a bit with food unloading.

But one of the highlights of the day was meeting some of the kids from one of Niwasa’s programs, EarlyON.

Between serving up “tea” and “ice cream” (see slides 3 & 5!!) the kids got to just be kids. Which is not only everything we could hope for, but it’s at the heart of why we do what we do.

Without hunger, there is play. There is learning. There is space for tradition, culture, and growth.

And for almost three decades, Niwasa Hamilton has provided this foundation. Niwasa offers food, education, and cultural connection to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous families across Hamilton, Brantford and surrounding areas. They have built a community grounded in connection and care, supporting individuals through every stage of life. Their roots run deep, and we know their reach and impact fo far beyond what one post could capture.

We’re incredibly proud to partner with agencies like Niwasa. And we’re grateful to the Purolator Tackle Hunger program and everyone who gives back, for helping us deliver the support our community needs.

Food is just the beginning.

A very very special thank you to everyone who made this morning possible:

💜 Niwasa Hamilton for nearly three decades of dedicated community support (with a special shoutout to Marlena for making the day possible)
🏈 Ticats & Canadian Football League 🏈🇨🇦 & of course Kenny Lawler for being an incredible ambassador and for having such a great way with the kids
💛 Natalie Sexton | Fashion & Beauty Expert for always being so engaged, even at the “tea” table!
❤️ Purolator 🇨🇦 for driving the Purolator Tackle Hunger campaign forward each and every year!

Looking forward to another year of creative talent and incredible impact! Every empty bowl purchased helps ensure no one goes hungry in Hamilton ❤️

🍲 Empty Bowls: Potters Fighting Hunger

Each year during our Fall Sale, our members donate beautiful handmade bowls for Empty Bowls, a fundraiser supporting Hamilton Food Share—an agency that collects surplus food and distributes it to emergency food programs across the city.

🎉 Last Fall marked our 21st Empty Bowls event—and thanks to your generous support, we raised an incredible $29,400!

For just $35, visitors selected a handcrafted bowl to take home. Every single dollar goes directly to feeding those in need. It's a powerful way to take home a piece of art and give back to our community at the same time.

Let’s keep the momentum going!

To our Social Media & Community Engagement intern, Abbey…

Thank YOU for making our summer 100x better! 🌟

Yesterday was officially Abbey’s last day working with us. We are sad to see her go, but more than anything, we’re excited to see her continue to grow. If the last few months are any indication... we know how far she’ll go! (Unintended Dr. Seuss rhyme!)

Throughout her time at HFS, Abbey jumped into a wide range of projects. She created social media posts, designed project assets, supported various events, captured photos, and so much more.

Beyond her graphic design skills and keen eye for detail, Abbey was simply a joy to work with: thoughtful, adaptable, kind, and a natural fit on our team from day one.

One of the things we’ll certainly miss the most are her whiteboard drawings… she made sure our staff lounge was never without a bit of inspiration for the day 🎨✨ (slide 4 is a personal favourite!)

We hope this was a great learning experience in the non-profit world. Wherever you decide to go next, we know you’ll make a difference.

P.S. - Enjoy Alaska & good luck with your final year in Graphic Design! 🌲🏔️

An all-star crew, an incredible day, and the best fans in the city showing up for our community.

Because of you, we secured 1,184 meals in just two hours last weekend 👊

Whether you grabbed a donation bag at the till, dropped off food, or came by to say hello, thank you so much for stopping by 🫶

We also wanted to give a huge shoutout to the crew at Longo’s for their passion for the cause, to the Ticats team (Kenny Lawler, Stripes 🐯, and the Ticats Dance & Cheer) for showing so much love for the fans, to our Purolator Tackle Hunger Champions for their support, and of course - to Natalie Sexton | Fashion & Beauty Expert for bringing the warmth and vibes!

Swipe through to see the hype, the smiles, and a local pup getting in on the action.

If you missed this one, we’ve got two more food drives lined up. You can join us this upcoming Sunday, August 23 at Longo’s Ancaster from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. See our pinned post for full details.

Happy Friday Hamilton!

Grateful as always for our partners who help make this all possible (and not just a daydream!):

Pet food demand is at an all-time high in our network.

Did you know that 77% of Canadian pet owners would skip a meal themselves before letting their pet go hungry?

At Hamilton Food Share, we distribute food to programs supporting local families, and pet food is urgently needed alongside food for people.

To keep our warehouse stocked, we are actively looking for corporate partners, brands, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers who can provide bulk inventory donations.

Can your organization help?

Know a pet food brand, supplier or distributor? Tag them in the comments! Or, share this post to your story to help us reach potential suppliers.

The right partnership could help us meet this growing need and ensure that no family has to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets. ❤️

Today is National Nonprofit Day! ❤️

At Hamilton Food Share, we are proud to be part of a network of nonprofits working together to ensure everyone in our community has access to healthy food. Every donation, volunteer, and act of kindness helps strengthen that collective impact.

Every day, Hamilton Food Share works diligently behind the scenes to help move nutritious food into the hands of people across our community. From receiving and sorting food in our warehouse to working alongside volunteers, donors, and community partners, we help make sure good food reaches people and families through our network of food access organizations.

Our hard work is just one example of the vital role nonprofits play in building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities. From addressing food insecurity to supporting health, education, housing, and countless other essential services, their impact is made possible through collaboration and the generosity of people who care.

Today, we thank all the nonprofit organizations making a difference in Hamilton and beyond. Your dedication helps create a more compassionate and resilient community for everyone. ❤️
