“I just want my cat to have kittens once before she gets spayed.”
We hear this far too often, and we need people to understand why this mindset is part of the problem.
Your cat does not need to have a litter to experience motherhood. She doesn’t need to have kittens to feel fulfilled. And there is absolutely no health or emotional benefit to letting her have a litter before she’s spayed.
What those kittens need is a world that already has more than enough cats looking for homes.
Rescues are overwhelmed. Shelters are full. Foster homes are stretched thin. Cats are being abandoned, surrendered, and left outside to survive in conditions no animal should have to endure. We are trying to find homes for the cats already here while more kittens are born every single day.
And for every litter bred because someone wants their cat to experience motherhood, there are kittens in rescue waiting for someone to choose them. There are friendly cats who have never known a home. There are pregnant cats giving birth outside, and tiny kittens fighting to survive without shelter, warmth, or food.
Please don’t add to the problem because you think your cat should have kittens just once. If you want to experience the joy of having kittens in your life, adopt or foster. There are so many already here who need you.
Spaying and neutering is one of the most important things we can do to reduce overpopulation, prevent suffering, and give the cats already here a better chance at life.
We cannot rescue our way out of this crisis if the number of cats being born continues to exceed the number of homes available for them.
Be part of the solution. Spay. Neuter. Foster. Adopt. And please share this message. The cats who are already here deserve a chance, too.
