WAKE REMINDERS - Now that warm weather is finally arriving, boating activity will increase. Let's be SAFE and COURTEOUS! Lake residents very much appreciate those wake boaters who avoid the narrow sections of our lake. Large waves can cause erosion, damage to docks, and risk to paddlers/swimmers. Also, wake surfing in shallow areas disturbs the lake bottom which increases phosphorous levels that degrade water quality. Much appreciation goes to those wake boaters who stick to the widest sections of Long Lake! 😃

GOOD ADVICE from our watershed neighbours at LAKE PENAGE

Be mindful when boating during these high water levels. Wakes from boats can worsen flooding and damage buildings. Try to avoid going too fast near the shoreline, and keep an eye out for floating debris, as it poses a hazard. Wildlife is also affected, especially the loons that have just returned to the lake.

WATER QUALITY DATA for our lake was shared in November at our Annual General Meeting and again April 21 in our newsletter to members and lake residents on our contact list. We are grateful to our LLS committee member Richard Witham who collects samples and Secchi disk readings (re water clarity) to submit to Ontario's Lake Partner Program (LPP). This volunteer-based, water-quality monitoring program provides data that informs scientists, government and community groups. Read more about the LPP at FOCA.on.ca. Lake residents can stay informed about Long Lake issues by joining the LLS and/or providing their email for our News ([email protected]).šŸ›¶
