Your shoreline is one of the most important parts of a healthy lake.

Native trees, shrubs, grasses, and other shoreline plants help filter runoff, reduce erosion, and provide valuable habitat for fish, birds, turtles, and other wildlife.
Protecting natural shorelines helps keep Ontario's lakes healthy for generations to come. 💙

Small actions make a big difference for our lakes.

Aquatic invasive species can hitch a ride on boats, trailers, and equipment, spreading from one lake to another. Before heading home, always:

✅ Clean away plants and mud
✅ Drain standing water
✅ Dry for at least 5 days (or wipe everything down)

Together, we can help keep Ontario's waterways healthy. 💚

Septic Tip: Your septic system should be pumped out and cleaned every 3 to 5 years.

A regular pump-out removes built-up solids, helps protect your leaching bed, and gives your pumper a chance to check the tank.

If you’re due, book early — pumpers can fill up fast.

Long Lake is in the PANACHE WATERSHED, i.e. the chain of lakes from McFarlane to Lake Penage/Panache.

Out of sight doesn’t mean out of reach.

Even if you can’t see a lake or stream from your home, your actions can still affect one. Everyone lives in a watershed. That means runoff from rain, snowmelt, and everyday activities (like washing cars, draining pools, or watering lawns) eventually flows to a lake, river, or stream in your watershed.

Check out this map to see which waterbody you have an impact on.

***
