Going back to school just got better! Eligible Métis families can now apply for the Gear Up For More: Laptop Access Program to receive a free laptop, designed to support students with access to online learning and schoolwork at home.

Eligibility includes
- The student must be a registered Otipemisiwak Métis Government Citizen
- The student must be residing in Alberta
- The student must be entering Grades 1–6 in Fall 2026

ELIGILIBILITY CONCERNS: Programs within the Children and Family Services at the Otipemisiwak Métis Government are funded through specific grants, each with its own eligibility criteria and program guidelines. These requirements are set by our funders and are outside of our control. That said, we work hard within these parameters to support as many Métis children and families as possible, and we truly appreciate your understanding as we navigate these limitations together.

The Session is an Opportunity to:

▪️ Share your concerns, perspectives, and local knowledge to help inform consultation with Energy Alberta.
▪️ Help ensure Métis rights, traditional, activities, and land use are considered.

Harvesters, trappers, and Indigenous land users who are active in the Peace River/Grande Prairie areas are encouraged to attend & discuss any concerns regarding potential impacts to the exercise of their rights, traditional activities, & land use.

We welcome families in Grande Prairie to explore grief support options for children aged 5-15. Register for Camp Heal A Heart this year! Each offers age-appropriate activities, gentle peer connection, and trained facilitators who guide sessions with care. The first Monday in August is Alberta’s Heritage Day.

Events across the province celebrate Alberta’s history and rich multicultural society and help us recognize the value that diversity and multiculturalism bring to our province.

Our Grande Prairie Métis Local 1990 office will be closed today (August 3rd) to honour the rich heritage of the Métis people.

Our office will be closed today at 2 p.m. and will reopen on on Tuesday, August 4, at 9AM.

This Heritage Day, we at the Grande Prairie Métis Local Council #1990 take time to reflect on our shared history, celebrate the strength of our culture, and honour the traditions that continue to guide us as Métis people.
