On the evening of August 4, 1998, 17-year-old Lisa Taodora Kopf left her home in Edmonton's Callingwood neighbourhood with her 15-year-old sister.

The sisters attended a house party near 102 Street and 132 Avenue.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on August 5, Lisa left the party alone. Investigators have never publicly disclosed why she left or where she intended to go afterward.

A few hours later, a farmer feeding cattle made a grim discovery in a slough located in a field west of Edmonton, near 184 Street and 118 Avenue.

Lisa's body was found partially submerged in mud and water.

Investigators determined that she had been murdered.

According to information released during the investigation, Lisa died after her face was forced into the mud and held there until she suffocated. Authorities also stated that she had no drugs or alcohol in her system at the time of her death. Investigators further reported that there was no evidence of s*xual assault, leading them to believe that robbery or s*xual violence may not have been the motive.

Lisa was known to some people by the name Monika Wiley.

One detail that emerged during the early stages of the investigation involved a report made to police at approximately 5:20 a.m. on the morning Lisa was killed. The call concerned a suspicious person near an abandoned building located a few hundred metres from where her body would later be found. Police have never publicly disclosed whether that individual was identified or whether the sighting was connected to the homicide.

To this day, no one has been charged in Lisa's murder.

Jody Rae Hockett was 33 years old when she disappeared from Grande Prairie, Alberta, in February 2009.

On the night of February 22, 2009, Jody attended a gathering at a friend's apartment. She left, intending to return, but never did.

Later that night, she was seen outside the York Hotel in downtown Grande Prairie getting into an older-model white vehicle. It is the last confirmed sighting of her.
Jody was reported missing to the RCMP on February 27, 2009.

Her purse and cellphone had been left behind with people she had been with earlier that evening. According to her family, this was completely out of character. They say Jody stayed in regular contact with loved ones and would never have willingly disappeared or abandoned her two children.

At the time she went missing, Jody was 5'5" tall with dyed strawberry-blonde hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion. She was last seen wearing jeans, a tank top, a black zip-up hoodie, and fur-trimmed high-heeled shoes.

Police later stated that Jody was known to them and described her as living a "high-risk lifestyle." Her family has since publicly expressed their belief that she met with foul play and has continued to advocate for her case to be treated as a potential homicide.

More than 16 years later, Jody Rae Hockett remains missing. No charges have been laid, no suspects have been publicly identified, and her family continues to hope that someone will come forward with the information needed to bring her home.

Marten Robert Wenzel was 29 years old when he disappeared from Edmonton in August of 2004.

According to the Edmonton Police Service, Marten was last heard from by his family on or around August 10, 2004. At the time, he was living in Edmonton.

Family members reported that Marten maintained regular contact and was known to check in at least once a month. When communication suddenly stopped, those closest to him became concerned. He has not been heard from since.

Few details about the circumstances surrounding Marten's disappearance have been released publicly, and investigators have not disclosed where he was last seen or what may have occurred prior to his disappearance.

Marten is described as an Indigenous male with black hair, brown eyes, and glasses. He stood approximately 6'2" tall and weighed about 150 pounds at the time he went missing.

More than twenty years have passed since Marten was last heard from, yet his disappearance remains unsolved.

Someone may remember a conversation, a sighting, or a detail that seemed insignificant at the time. Even after all these years, information can still make a difference.

Badri Prasad Bhattarai, 54, was reported missing on February 21, 2017, after family members became concerned when they were unable to reach him. His disappearance was described as out of character, prompting concerns for his well-being.

Badri was last known to be in the area of the Walterdale Bridge in Edmonton. Police have stated there are no indications of foul play, but his whereabouts remain unknown.

At the time he was last seen, Badri was described as an East Indian male with brown eyes and short black hair, standing 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 176 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark blue uniform pants, a white shirt, and a black tie. He was also wearing black-framed glasses and a gold ring with three clear stones on his left finger.

Badri may have been carrying two necklaces. One was a black chain holding a Volkswagen key fob, a house key, a locker key, and a mailbox key. The second was a black chain necklace with a pendant featuring the letter “R” and a Swedish flag.
Police noted that Badri has a mole on his right nostril and dark scarring on both shins related to diabetes.

The Edmonton Police Service continues to seek the public’s assistance in locating Badri Prasad Bhattarai. His family remains concerned, and his case remains open.

Fifty years ago, 17-year-old Marie Goudreau left Edmonton to drive home to her family's farm near Beaumont.

She never arrived.

On the evening of August 2, 1976, Marie spent time with friends in Edmonton before beginning the short drive home. At approximately 10:30 p.m., she said goodbye, explaining that she needed to work early the next morning.

It was the last confirmed time anyone saw her alive.

Less than an hour later, her blue Plymouth Cricket was discovered on Range Road 244 near Ellerslie Road. The engine was still running. The driver's door stood open, and the window was rolled down. Inside the car were Marie's purse, with money still inside, her sandals, and a leather coat folded neatly across the back seat. There were no obvious signs of a struggle.

When Marie failed to return home, she was reported missing, and an extensive search began.

Two days later, on August 4, 1976, searchers made the discovery no family should ever have to endure. Marie's body was found in a water-filled ditch on a rural property north of Devon.

She had been the victim of a violent homicide.

Investigators believe Marie may have been persuaded to leave her vehicle, either by someone she knew or by someone pretending to need assistance. Her brown slacks and navy ankle socks were never recovered.

Over the decades, investigators have continued to revisit Marie's case alongside other unsolved homicides from the era. Historical reviews identified convicted violent offender Gary McAstocker as a person of interest in multiple investigations. However, no one has ever been charged in Marie's murder, and police have never publicly identified a suspect.

Half a century has now passed and her loved one's are still awaiting answers.

Marie Antoinette Carlson-Hill, who also went by Toni, was 30 years old when she was last seen in Edmonton, Alberta on February 15, 2012.

Toni was known to frequent the 107 Avenue area, just north of downtown Edmonton. Friends and family said it was not unusual for her to travel, including trips to Calgary and Montreal, but extended silence was out of character.

When months passed without contact, concern grew. Toni was officially reported missing in September 2012 after loved ones realized they had been unable to reach her for an unusually long time.

Those who knew her described Toni as spunky, funny, and fiercely independent. As a teenager, she was remembered for dancing down the street and finding joy in small moments. Friends also spoke openly about the challenges she faced later in life, including addiction and involvement in s*x work, but emphasized that these circumstances did not define her worth.

Toni was a mother of two daughters. Her loved ones have consistently stated that regardless of the path her life took, she remained deeply loved and deserving of answers.

At the time of her disappearance, Toni was approximately 5’3”, 130 pounds, with long curly brown hair and blue eyes. She had two tattoos: “Navaeh” on her left arm and “Daija” on her right arm.

Marie Antoinette Carlson-Hill remains missing. No confirmed sightings have been reported, and no public updates have been released regarding her case.

Shelly Tannis Dene was 25 years old when she was last seen in August 2013 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Shelly, a member of the Fort McKay First Nation, had travelled from Kelowna to Edmonton to visit family. At the time of her disappearance, she was staying at her grandmother’s residence. She left the home unexpectedly and did not return.

Her family was unable to reach her in the months that followed. Although her phone remained active for a period of time, it was later disconnected which was considered out of character. Shelly was officially reported missing to Edmonton Police on November 8, 2013.

There have been no confirmed sightings or public updates in the years since her disappearance.

On February 21, 2008, the body of 21-year-old Brianna Danielle Torvalson was found in a rural area of Strathcona County, Alberta.

Brianna was discovered near Township Road 534 and Range Road 220, east of Edmonton. Police were called after her body was found in the snow beside a private driveway.

The following day, the medical examiner confirmed that Brianna’s death was a homicide. Investigators have never publicly released her cause of death, and it has not been confirmed whether she was killed where she was found or if her body was left there afterward.

Brianna’s case was assigned to Project KARE, the joint RCMP and Edmonton Police Service initiative created to investigate the deaths and disappearances of vulnerable people in Alberta.

In a statement released after her death, Brianna’s family described her as a “loving, caring, beautiful, irreplaceable soul” and an “extremely strong young woman with hopes and dreams.”

Her uncle remembered her as happy-go-lucky, quiet, spontaneous, and someone who loved being around family.

Despite public appeals, no suspects have ever been publicly identified and no arrests have been made.

Jennifer Anne Regan was 16 years old when she disappeared from Calgary on August 2, 1991.

More than three decades later, very little information has been publicly released regarding the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Authorities have not disclosed where Jennifer was last seen, who she may have been with, or the events leading up to her disappearance.

What is known is that Jennifer was reported missing from Calgary and has never been located.

Jennifer was born on May 15, 1975. She is described as a Caucasian female with blonde hair and blue eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she stood approximately 5'9" tall and weighed about 130 pounds.

According to medical records from 1985, Jennifer had previously suffered fractures to her left collarbone and left wrist as the result of a motor vehicle collision. She was also noted to have a yellow discoloration of her teeth, which may assist in identification.

Despite the passage of more than 30 years, Jennifer remains listed as a missing person, and her case continues to be recognized by both Calgary Police Service and the RCMP's National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains.

One of the challenges in Jennifer's case is the lack of publicly available information. With so few details released, even seemingly minor information from 1991 could prove significant to investigators. After she vanished, Reader's Digest also published a story about her life. These articles placed Michelle in real, documented spaces and captured her routines, relationships, and presence in the Strathcona / Whyte Avenue area. She was a known, active part of the city.

Public reporting and family-centered coverage indicate that Michelle disappeared in February 2006.
