๐Ÿšจ RiverWatch Safety Update ๐Ÿšจ

At RiverWatch, safety is always our number one priority!

Due to rising water levels on local Alberta rivers, our safety team has suspended our school science floats during a few days this week and rebooked schools to later June dates โ˜”๏ธ

Our team closely monitors river conditions, flow rates, weather forecasts, and on-the-ground observations throughout the day. While we know postponements can be disappointing, making conservative decisions is a key part of our commitment to providing safe and enjoyable experiences for our guests, students, and staff.

We will continue to monitor conditions hourly and look forward to returning to the river as soon as it is safe to do so! ๐Ÿ›ถ

Thank you for your understanding and support ๐Ÿฉต

๐Ÿ›ผ๐ŸŽ‰ RiverWatch YYC Team Celebration! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ›ผ

After reaching an incredible milestone of impacting more than 4,700 students across Alberta this spring, some of our Calgary team traded paddles for roller skates and took a well-earned break together!

At RiverWatch, we work hard, but we also believe in celebrating the amazing people who make our mission possible. From early mornings on the river to inspiring the next generation of watershed stewards, our team continues to make a difference every single day.

A huge thank you to our guides, educators, support staff, teachers, partners, and sponsors who help make this impact possible.

4,500+ students reached this spring alone by May 28! Countless memories created. One incredible team. โค๏ธ๐Ÿšฃโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ›ผ

What do students actually learn on a RiverWatch float on the Bow River?โ
โ
Every RiverWatch experience is a floating classroom where students explore the science behind one of Albertaโ€™s most important watersheds.โ
โ
Some amazing Bow River facts students discover on the river:โ
โ
โ€ข The Bow River is fed mostly by melting snowpack โ€” not glaciers as many people think โ„๏ธโ
โ
โ€ข Minerals like limestone naturally give the river a higher pH ๐Ÿงชโ
โ
โ€ข The Bow River Basin makes up 23% of the entire South Saskatchewan River Basin ๐ŸŒŽโ
โ
โ€ข The river stretches an incredible 587 km through Alberta ๐Ÿž๏ธโ
โ
โ€ข Students test real water quality parameters and learn how watersheds connect communities, wildlife, stormwater, and drinking water ๐Ÿ’งโ
โ
For 30 years, RiverWatch has been helping students experience science where it matters most โ€” directly on the river.โ

Shoutout to our regional sponsors! Water Services, and many more ๐Ÿ‘โ

๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’ง ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒŽ Happy World Water Day from RiverWatch!

Today we celebrate the rivers and streams that shape our communities and the responsibility we all share to understand and protect them.

For RiverWatch, thereโ€™s no better way to mark World Water Day than by getting ready for another season on the water.

In just 36 days, our School Science Float program returns to & , where students step out of the classroom onto floating classrooms and into real-world science. Each year, approximately 10,000 Alberta students join us on the Bow and North Saskatchewan Rivers to study water quality, explore river ecosystems, and learn why healthy waterways matter.

Since 1995, RiverWatch has grown to become the largest on-river water education nonprofit in Western Canada. Our curriculum aligned programming helps young people see that rivers are not just scenery โ€” they are living systems that support our cities, our environment, and our future.

Thank you to our partners! RiverWatch School Science Floats are presented in Edmonton by and in Calgary by - Water Services.

We canโ€™t wait to welcome our first schools of the season on April 27.

๐Ÿ’™ Hereโ€™s to the river.
๐Ÿ’™ Hereโ€™s to learning outside the classroom.
๐Ÿ’™ And hereโ€™s to protecting the waters that sustain us all.
