Climate Justice Durham New members welcome! There is no climate justice without Indigenous rights and sovereignty.

Climate Justice Durham (formerly Fridays for Future Whitby) is a multi-generational group of volunteers advocating for meaningful climate-based change in Durham Region, ON as well as in all levels of government. Climate Justice Durham is located on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Michi Saagig Anishinaabeg, specifically the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

A few weeks ago, CJD members attended one of the ‘Hands Off Our Education’ Doug Ford protests as part of the Henry Street School Student Stike! ❤️ 📣

Tomorrow (May 30th) CJD will also be at the protests against Doug Ford at MPP Lorne Coe’s Office (3000 Garden Street, Whitby).

There are other protests happening across the province if you can’t make the Whitby one. Check out for more information.

One of the members of CJD, Brian Kelly, will be presenting about his household’s journey to zero carbon! Brian is a life-long environmentalist who has worked for an NGO (as a founder of Pollution Probe), the Federal Government as a consultant, educator (at York University), utility executive and local government official (the Region of Durham). He and his wife, Ruth, have been “early adopters” of green technology most of their lives.

What you can expect to learn:
- The increased financial savings and reduced energy usage of home retrofits

- The importance of electrification in the home retrofit process
- Tangible advice for how you can implement these solutions in your home!

On April 25th members of CJD attended the province-wide protests against Doug Ford at Queen’s Park, Whitby, and Pickering! 📢

Despite the rainy conditions lots of folks showed up to protest Doug Ford and his government’s many terrible plans such as the OSAP cuts, Bill 5, the changes to the Freedom of Information Act… the list (unfortunately) goes on and on 😡

The next province-wide protests are happening on Saturday, May 30th in Toronto at Queen’s Park at 11am, in Whitby at MPP Lorne Coe’s office at 12pm, in Pickering at MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy’s office at 11am‼️

Ingrid Janssen is a director with Little Forests Durham, a relatively new non-profit in Durham Region, that focuses on planting mini forests in urban parks and other public spaces around Durham. The group has already helped to plant 4 of these mighty mini forests.

Jenn McCallum is the Green Infrastructure Programs Lead at Green Communities Canada, and is based in Nogojiwanong (Peterborough), Ontario. She leads the monthly Mini Forest Community of Practice, which covers topics on mini forest site prep, installation, maintenance, and monitoring.
