Keep the pressure on!!

After hearing from thousands of Canadians about the proposed environmental rollbacks announced two weeks ago, the federal government has extended the deadline for public input until July 22. This is good news! Now let's ramp up the pressure and make sure they scrap these reckless changes altogether.

“Dear ADIMS Members and Friends,

Concerned Citizens of Baynes Sound (CCOBS) requests your support for the Comox Valley Regional District’s (CVRD) proposed bylaw, which would change marine industrial water zoning to aquaculture zoning where the marine industrial zone does not have a valid provincial tenure (lease). This includes surface waters north of Union Bay and the areas that Deep Water Recovery used for shipbreaking activities. As much as we prefer marine conservation zoning, we believe that this amendment is a positive development. If the bylaw passes, it will add further barriers to accessing the shipbreaking site from the water. We also suspect that given the pollution documented in the area, new aquaculture activities are unlikely.

The letter to the CVRD (for signing) is attached. Please download it, include your name and address at the bottom of the text, and email it to [email protected] no later than 4:30PM on June 22nd. Also, copy [email protected] so that CCOBS can keep a count of those in support.

We hope you can support this bylaw. Although signing is most important for those who live within the bounds of CVRD, CCOBS believes all support is useful.

Warm regards,

ADIMS Board”
