Our first Cine-Concert of 2026 will take place January 16th at the York Point Community Centre in Town of Cornwall PEI

Guitarist Chris Corrigan will perform a live soundtrack to The Hands of Orlac (1924), directed by Robert Wiene and starring Conrad Veidt. The film reunites the director–actor duo four years after their landmark collaboration The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari—which we screened last year.

Veidt stars as Paul Orlac, a concert pianist who loses his hands in a horrific railway accident. In a desperate attempt to save his career, a surgeon transplants the hands of a recently executed murderer.

🗓 January 16
⏰ 7:30pm at York Point Community Centre (Cornwall)

Screening co-hosted with Island Jazz
Tickets available at the door or online

For the next installment of our NFB Treasures Series, we’ll be at the York Point Community Center with a program of three films directed by Roman Kroitor and Wolf Koenig—two key figures of the Candid Eye series.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the National Film Board of Canada produced Candid Eye, a groundbreaking series that helped define cinĂ©ma vĂ©ritĂ©. Among its subjects was music—especially classical music—highlighted in two companion films featuring Glenn Gould: Off the Record and On the Record.

Building on that experience, Kroitor and Koenig expanded the half-hour format of Candid Eye into an hour long documentary, capturing Igor Stravinsky in Toronto as he recorded Symphony of Psalms with the CBC Symphony Orchestra.

On October 4 (7:30 pm), we’ll present these three remarkable documentaries—two on Gould and one on Stravinsky—as part of our ongoing NFB Treasures Series.

As always with this NFB series, admission is free (donations welcome).

You could reserve you seat, link in our bio.

This Thursday, August 14, we cap off our summer series at the York Point Community Centre with Dark August, a hidden folkloric horror gem. Featuring Oscar-winner Kim Hunter, this paranormal thriller channels the uncanny mythology of rural Vermont — the ideal conclusion to a summer of discovery and unforgettable cinema.

“Quiet and effective downbeat horror
it’s truly the stuff of nightmares.“
