Today we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We honour the survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities.
The official ceremony takes place at 11:30 am at the Shaw Building. It will also be livestreamed on the provincial government Facebook and YouTube pages.

Chiefs, Elders, the Premier of PEI and the Lieutenant Governor will gather for prayers, song and a moment of silence at noon, followed by the lowering of the flags. If you cannot attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the Government of PEI's Facebook and YouTube pages.

September 30, 2026 will mark the 6th National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across Canada. What started as a local movement, Orange Shirt Day, has transformed into a powerful day of reflection. Across communities from coast to coast, we will honour Survivors of residential schools, their families and the children who did not return. This is a time to reflect on the truth of this painful chapter in Canadian history and how we can move forward in the spirit of reconciliation.
During these reflections, we will be:
• Honouring the Survivors, who share their stories, so we do not forget
• Mourning the children who never returned to their families
• Accepting the truth of the residential schools and their impacts
• Understanding our part in the journey of reconciliation
