PLEASE SHARE: FEAR IS THE ENTRY POINT

Fear is the entry point for most scams.

Scammers want you to stop thinking logically and start reacting emotionally because FEAR is their most powerful weapon.

It usually sounds like this:
• “Your bank account has been compromised.”
• “There is a warrant for your arrest.”
• “Immediate action is required to avoid penalties.”

These messages are not designed to inform you; they are designed to overwhelm you.

When people feel fear, they act quickly without verification. That is exactly what scammers are counting on.

No legitimate agency will pressure you into making immediate payments, sharing personal information, or staying on the phone under threat.

If urgency replaces verification, Remember! Don't React. Recognize. Verify.

Because once fear takes over, logic is the first thing they take from you.

Scammers count on fear spreading faster than facts. Help us stop them before they strike again. Like, follow, and share this post to protect your family, friends, and your money.

Remember! Don't React. Recognize. Verify.

Today we highlight that it is World Elder Abuse day. I think we need to be aware of this. World Elder Abuse day should be something we think about everyday, not just one day a year. This is a terrific post that summarizes all the reasons scammer target seniors. Scammers target all ages, but seniors often are more trusting, and have wealth so are a target rich environment for the scammer. Do you know who your parents are talking to? We often give warning to people to make sure we are aware of who their kids are talking to. This is just as important with our parents. Have the conversations around the dinner table, often. Make sure your kids, your parents, and your friends all are aware to the scamdemic.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).

Seniors are often targeted by fraudsters who use pressure, fear, trust, and emotional manipulation to steal money and personal information. Common frauds include investment fraud, prize fraud, relationship fraud, emergency frauds and fake fraud investigators.

Protect yourself and your loved ones:
- Slow down and verify before sending money or sharing information.
- Never share passwords or multi-factor authentication codes.
- Be cautious of unsolicited investment opportunities or urgent requests for money.
- Contact organizations using trusted phone numbers and websites.
- Talk to someone you trust before making financial decisions.

Always pause, and independently verify before trusting, responding or providing information.

This is the scam economy. It's not the fabled Nigerian prince who needs help cashing in his inheritance. This is more devastating and has likely targeted someone you know.

Romance scams are one of the fastest‑growing forms of online fraud and older adults are often targeted. Scammers know that many seniors value connection, routine, and meaningful conversation, so they build trust slowly through daily messages, affection, and emotional storytelling.

Once that bond feels real, the requests begin: money for an emergency, help with travel, or financial support to “solve a temporary problem.” These stories are carefully crafted to create urgency and guilt, making it harder to step back and question what’s happening.

There is nothing embarrassing about being targeted. These scams are designed to manipulate emotions, not intelligence.

Talk openly with others in your life about the warning signs: refusing video calls, avoiding in‑person meetings, asking for money, or pushing for fast emotional intimacy. A simple conversation can prevent financial loss and emotional harm

If something feels off, trust your instincts. Know something or someone running these scams? You can report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477 or online at Canadiancrimestoppers.org
